Ah now Annie, at the risk of rocking my "Pro" status what you are looking at is one of the classic compromises when kitchen or, more to the point, room design meets the differing views that can live in the domestic environment. Of course the extractor should be a lot lower down but no one these days wants to crack their foreheads against the corner of an ugly steel tube nor spoil the view from anywhere in their new, lit from the sky and beautifully extended kitchen/Living space. A discreet hood somewhere is better than none at all right? Well, maybe not but besides, our tastes have changed, we have clean induction hobs, we don't cook smoky fry ups or steaks any more as the all-weather gas BBQ area is just outside the folding doors. I take your point but the idea of an approachable, cosy space was more important given the client's family, lifestyle and brief than the necessities of extraction over an induction hob that is itself swallowed in the enormous space. Thanks for the comment and compliments of the season.

Haha... thank you for your reply and I couldn't agree more. I was just under the impression that there was no 'wriggle room' in terms of distance from hon to extractor fan. Totally get your point and quite relieved as I'm trying to work out this problem myself. I don't suppose you remember the make of that ceiling fan?

The flooring is an engineered oiled walnut. Rgds.
