Sustainable KitchensBrick, wood and light beams create a calming, design-driven space in this Bristol kitchen extension.
In the existing space, the painted cabinets make use of the tall ceilings with an understated backdrop for the open-plan lounge area. In the newly extended area, the wood veneered cabinets are paired with a floating shelf to keep the wall free for the sunlight to beam through. The island mimics the shape of the extension which was designed to ensure that this south-facing build stayed cool in the sunshine. Towards the back, bespoke wood panelling frames the windows along with a banquette seating to break up the bricks and create a dining area for this growing family.

British Standard by Plain EnglishA white kitchen, colour blocked though, by a dark contrasting island with ribbed sink and a run of tall cupboards drenched in blue. Nothing dull here. Copper accents add form and weight, a tonal extractor fan and archway into the tiny (but mighty) utility room perform their architectural duties. Traditional marble worktops add a final authoritative point.
Design Interiors LtdOur MD Michael designed this kitchen for a friend & long term client of Design Interiors who, had bought a large plot of land to build his dream home. A large Island with seating was an essential for him as so family had comfortable social seating & he had plenty of worktop space. With this island being so large, Michael designed a central feature around the hob & incorporated the walnut units to divide the island which completed the design of this feature. The addition of the black glass surrounding the 2 BORA induction hobs sections off the cooking zone & adds a finer design detail.
The walnut units & internals combined with Farrow & Ball’s ‘Moles Breath’ & the Statuario Maximus worktops create a contemporary twist on this classic traditional furniture. Michael carefully designed specific storage such as the spice racks, coffee unit & trays as so this design offered every detail whilst remaining minimal & organised.
A built in mirror TV was incorporated into the glass splash back as so that this item becomes invisible when not in use. The appliances of this design are MIELE & a Quooker hot tap has been incorporated.
The small black Contemporary kitchenette has been designed just off the master bedroom for those morning coffees overlooking the grounds from the bedroom’s balcony.

Ray Munn KitchensWe had the privilege of transforming the kitchen space of a beautiful Grade 2 listed farmhouse located in the serene village of Great Bealings, Suffolk. The property, set within 2 acres of picturesque landscape, presented a unique canvas for our design team. Our objective was to harmonise the traditional charm of the farmhouse with contemporary design elements, achieving a timeless and modern look.
For this project, we selected the Davonport Shoreditch range. The kitchen cabinetry, adorned with cock-beading, was painted in 'Plaster Pink' by Farrow & Ball, providing a soft, warm hue that enhances the room's welcoming atmosphere.
The countertops were Cloudy Gris by Cosistone, which complements the cabinetry's gentle tones while offering durability and a luxurious finish.
The kitchen was equipped with state-of-the-art appliances to meet the modern homeowner's needs, including:
- 2 Siemens under-counter ovens for efficient cooking.
- A Capel 90cm full flex hob with a downdraught extractor, blending seamlessly into the design.
- Shaws Ribblesdale sink, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal.
- Liebherr Integrated tall fridge, ensuring ample storage with a sleek design.
- Capel full-height wine cabinet, a must-have for wine enthusiasts.
- An additional Liebherr under-counter fridge for extra convenience.
Beyond the main kitchen, we designed and installed a fully functional pantry, addressing storage needs and organising the space.
Our clients sought to create a space that respects the property's historical essence while infusing modern elements that reflect their style. The result is a pared-down traditional look with a contemporary twist, achieving a balanced and inviting kitchen space that serves as the heart of the home.

piquA large open plan kitchen extension in Petts Wood that features a beautiful selection of materials and textures. The stained oak veneer tall units compliment the lacquered carbon grey panels on the kitchen island, which is wrapped in Black Beauty Sensa stone. The bespoke breakfast and bar area is beautifully finished with mitred stone drawer fronts and very practical pocket doors with recessed handles. The large kitchen island houses the Kohler Sink, Quooker Tap, Siemens Induction Hob and bar stool seating. The back of the island includes an unusual and striking glass panel with laminated brass mesh and sophisticated lighting.
Higham FurnitureWe enjoyed designing this kitchen for our client in Kent. What makes it special is the statement splashback, made from exquisite Arabescato Rosso marble. Its red and earthy hues create a striking contrast against the blue-tone shaker cabinets, infusing the space with a sense of warmth and depth. This harmonious interplay of colors and textures brings together a captivating kitchen design that is both visually appealing and practical, and a true centerpiece of the house.

Mark English Architects, AIAThe Atherton House is a family compound for a professional couple in the tech industry, and their two teenage children. After living in Singapore, then Hong Kong, and building homes there, they looked forward to continuing their search for a new place to start a life and set down roots.
The site is located on Atherton Avenue on a flat, 1 acre lot. The neighboring lots are of a similar size, and are filled with mature planting and gardens. The brief on this site was to create a house that would comfortably accommodate the busy lives of each of the family members, as well as provide opportunities for wonder and awe. Views on the site are internal. Our goal was to create an indoor- outdoor home that embraced the benign California climate.
The building was conceived as a classic “H” plan with two wings attached by a double height entertaining space. The “H” shape allows for alcoves of the yard to be embraced by the mass of the building, creating different types of exterior space. The two wings of the home provide some sense of enclosure and privacy along the side property lines. The south wing contains three bedroom suites at the second level, as well as laundry. At the first level there is a guest suite facing east, powder room and a Library facing west.
The north wing is entirely given over to the Primary suite at the top level, including the main bedroom, dressing and bathroom. The bedroom opens out to a roof terrace to the west, overlooking a pool and courtyard below. At the ground floor, the north wing contains the family room, kitchen and dining room. The family room and dining room each have pocketing sliding glass doors that dissolve the boundary between inside and outside.
Connecting the wings is a double high living space meant to be comfortable, delightful and awe-inspiring. A custom fabricated two story circular stair of steel and glass connects the upper level to the main level, and down to the basement “lounge” below. An acrylic and steel bridge begins near one end of the stair landing and flies 40 feet to the children’s bedroom wing. People going about their day moving through the stair and bridge become both observed and observer.
The front (EAST) wall is the all important receiving place for guests and family alike. There the interplay between yin and yang, weathering steel and the mature olive tree, empower the entrance. Most other materials are white and pure.
The mechanical systems are efficiently combined hydronic heating and cooling, with no forced air required.
