Robeson Design
Kids Bedrooms can be fun. This preteen bedroom design was create for a young girl in need o her own bedroom. Having shared bedrooms with hr younger sister it was time Abby had her own room! Interior Designer Rebecca Robeson took the box shaped room and added a much needed closet by using Ikea's PAX wardrobe system which flanked either side of the window. This provided the perfect spot to add a simple bench seat below the window creating a delightful window seat for young Abby to curl up and enjoy a great book or text a friend. Robeson's artful use of bright wall colors mixed with PB teen bedding makes for a fun exhilarating first impression when walking into Abby's room! The interior design components that make this bedroom work so well: custom window treatments, creative wall treatment, and the right bedding combined with a stylish area rug.
I've been asked several times about the paint colors in this room...
I always advise people that they should not start with the paint colors when decorating a room, because it's much more difficult to match other decorating elements to paint colors such as fabrics, artwork and area rugs. Where as paint colors can be matched to anything. The paint colors can also look different in a room depending on lighting, both natural and electric. Photos can be great starting points for deciding the color scheme that appeals to you, however, photographs typically don't depict the actual paint colors. Consequently, it is dangerous to say you want the exact paint colors that you see in a photo. What else are you putting in the room that has green in it? Artwork, area rugs and fabrics are great starting points for matching up paint colors, and you definitely want to have a design plan before you start painting color.
Here's blog post I wrote on how to ease the process of choosing paint colors...

Irvine Project:
These clients came from Northern California. They decided to move into this beautiful Tuscany neighborhood in Irvine. They started with their bedroom as we gutted the entire bedroom suite. The master bath, the master bedroom, and the master retreat area were gutted down to the studs.
From motorized window treatments that preform on a timer, to the heated floors in the master bathroom. This home became a place where any one would love to come to home!
The rich hues of purples and greens, with creme as the color palette allowed the clients to fall in love with their home. The clients wanted to keep their bed as low to the floor as possible. The bedding was customized with beautiful decorative pillows and additional throw. The bench seat at the foot of the bed upholstered in the olive green velvet also has decorative neckroll pillows trimmed in fringes and braids at either end. The bench seat has wood, upholstery and wrought iron elements. The enlayed hand beveled carpeting mirrors the custom artistry above the bed.The details of the mural were taken from the fabric chosen for the window treatments. The artistry is done by an artist I have used for many years. His work is impeccable!
All of the custom furnishings were designed with the client's best interest. She wanted eveything to be low profile, and wanted very straight lines with some wrought iron detail. Once she approved the designs the dressers, and nightstands were put into production. Our wonderful cabinet maker produced exactly what the client wanted.
The master bathroom was designed from the floor to the ceiling as well. The heated floor, the custom enlay tile on the floor in front of the jacuzzi tub, and the enlay custom tile work inside the shower were all elements of the design. Custom cabinetry with cusom framed mirrors and custom lighting were all components of the design.
The master retreat area shows a chaise lounge sofa with an oversized ottoman and a lovely chair just for her. The window treatments are on a automatic timer to close everyday at 5 p.m. keeping the sun and heat out of the room. This is just one of the rooms in the wonderful house...for these wonderful clients. Another project well done by Interior Affairs!

This room has decorations of green digital art, bed covers and assorted cushions in shades of green in various shapes and sizes. All this comes with a custom made woollen rug of the matching colour on the floor.

A monochromatic soothing color creates a sanctuary away from the hustle-bustle of the city. All custom designed. A sofit was built to house indirect lighting and "an invisible door" (which looks part of the wall) leads to "a sex in the city" closet. This room is on over 2K ideabooks and got us the "2012 Best Of" award.
Simply Home Decorating
The small master bedroom in this 1950's era home lacked character as well as space so we added some molding detail to the focal wall behind the bed and kept furniture to a minimum, replacing the closet and dressers with built-in cabinetry along one wall. The black painted furniture provides a strong masculine foundation that is softened with a pretty chandelier, delicate hardware and deep coral velvet cushions that can be changed out with the seasons.
