This 4,500 square foot house faces eastward across Lake Washington from Kirkland toward the Seattle skyline. The clients have an appreciation for the Foursquare style found in many of the historic homes in the area, and designing a home that fit this vocabulary while also conforming to the zoning height limits was the primary challenge. The plan includes a music room, study, craft room, breakfast nook, and 5 bedrooms, all of which pinwheel off of a centrally located stair. Skylights in the center of the house flood the home with natural light from the ceiling through an opening in the second floor down to the main level.

This project began with an existing house of most humble beginnings and the final product really eclipsed the original structure. On a wonderful working farm with timber farming, horse barns and lots of large lakes and wild game the new layout enables a much fuller enjoyment of nature for this family and their friends. The look and feel is just as natural as its setting- stone and cedar shakes with lots of porches and as the owner likes to say, lots of space for animal heads on the wall!

In a Santa Fe historic neighborhood this small kitchen was designed with natural lighting, herb garden window, reclaimed barn wood shelving with workable space and a soft color palette.

The budget didn't allow for cabinetry so we re-purposed the old kitchen uppers by painting them and adding a painted shelf above to extend across the window.
The counter was made from an unfinished, unbore stain grade door from Lowes. We added a trim to the front and a coat of stain and it's a beautiful, inexpensive folding counter.

This is a French West Indies-inspired home with contemporary interiors. The floor plan was designed to provide lake views from every living area excluding the Media Room and 2nd story street-facing bedroom. Taking aging in place into consideration, there are master suites on both levels, elevator, and garage entrance. The three steps down at the entry were designed to get extra front footage while accommodating city height restrictions since the front of the lot is higher than the rear.
The family business is run out of the home so a separate entrance to the office/conference room is off the front courtyard.
Built on a lakefront lot, the home, its pool, and pool deck were all built on 138 pilings. The home boasts indoor/outdoor living spaces on both levels and uses retractable screens concealed in the 1st floor lanai and master bedroom sliding door opening. The screens hold up to 90% of the home’s conditioned air, serve as a shield to the western sun’s glare, and keep out insects. The 2nd floor master and exercise rooms open to the balcony and there is a window in the 2nd floor shower which frames the breathtaking lake view.
This home maximizes its view!

This bathroom, designed by interior architect Thomas Griem, enjoys a spectacular view over the city of London. Griem’s idea for the interior design was based on the concept of photography inspired by the views over the city. He has used the architecture of the windows to frame these vistas with breathtaking effect.
This is particularly so in the master bathroom where a full-height window provides a panoramic view over the rooftops of the City. the capacious free standing bathtub by Clearwater Baths is strategically placed under the picture window. “When you are sitting in the bath, you are essentially a part of the cityscape” says Thomas. “It weighs 300 kilograms and it took six men to carry it up seven floors!”.

Silicon Valley family home with a central kitchen island designed and created to have an old world character. It is a highly programmed hub as it is the central gathering place for homework, meals, which opens to the garden, family and breakfast room. The limestone counters, hand painted English tiles with herbs and flowers painted from the garden, along with antique lights from France and Venetian plaster for the hood and hickory floors create the perfect environment.

In this combination living room/ family room, form vs function is at it's best.. Formal enough to host a cocktail party, and comfortable enough to host a football game. The wrap around sectional accommodates 5-6 people and the oversized ottoman has room enough for everyone to put their feet up! The high back, stylized wing chair offers comfort and a lamp for reading. Decorative accessories are placed in the custom built bookcases freeing table top space for drinks, books, etc. Magazines and current reading are neatly placed in the rattan tray for easy access. The overall neutral color palette is punctuated by soft shades of blue around the room.
