The Fall City Renovation began with a farmhouse on a hillside overlooking the Snoqualmie River valley, about 30 miles east of Seattle. On the main floor, the walls between the kitchen and dining room were removed, and a 25-ft. long addition to the kitchen provided a continuous glass ribbon around the limestone kitchen counter. The resulting interior has a feeling similar to a fire look-out tower in the national forest. Adding to the open feeling, a custom island table was created using reclaimed elm planks and a blackened steel base, with inlaid limestone around the sink area. Sensuous custom blown-glass light fixtures were hung over the existing dining table. The completed kitchen-dining space is serene, light-filled and dominated by the sweeping view of the Snoqualmie Valley.
The second part of the renovation focused on the master bathroom. Similar to the design approach in the kitchen, a new addition created a continuous glass wall, with wonderful views of the valley. The blackened steel-frame vanity mirrors were custom-designed, and they hang suspended in front of the window wall. LED lighting has been integrated into the steel frames. The tub is perched in front of floor-to-ceiling glass, next to a curvilinear custom bench in Sapele wood and steel. Limestone counters and floors provide material continuity in the space.
Sustainable design practice included extensive use of natural light to reduce electrical demand, low VOC paints, LED lighting, reclaimed elm planks at the kitchen island, sustainably harvested hardwoods, and natural stone counters. New exterior walls using 2x8 construction achieved 40% greater insulation value than standard wall construction.

Stained Glass Dallas
The goal of this project was to create a more pleasing aesthetic appearance for this kitchen. If you look closely, you can see that on the other side of this window are the walls of a neighboring home. This wasn't exactly ideal for our clients as it wasn't a pleasant view to look at and it imposed on their family's privacy. So we created this prairie style stained glass window. The window was inspired by the works of Frank Lloyd Wright and was designed to add both privacy and color to our client's kitchen.

The rich combination of textures and materials comes together near the entry as the smooth concrete floors end in the honed black granite fireplace plinth, and in the band of spotted gum wood floors which transition smoothly into gray granite pavers under the custom entry bench.

john joy This skylight was designed to add color and movement to a stair way. The design of the frame divides the glass into 5 panels for access while the opalescent glass hides the sun tunnel above the art glass. Sun tunnel skylights are not recommended for lighting stained glass, but can work if their lense placement is as far away from the stained glass as possible

Beneath this large window with a tranquil view is a bench top made of hickory plywood that has a solid edge. Imagine reading or playing a board game on this bench that is as aesthetic and functional. It is built in hickory and stained in ‘american walnut’. Built-in open cubbies with wicker baskets are excellent for lots of hidden storage. The open framed doors are designed with an ogee outside profile and a furniture kick.

Our clients were looking for a unique work of art to add to their home. Their family had lived in the house for several generations so the space was very important to them. So we suggested a family crest stained glass panel. We worked closely with them to create a design that highlighted the history and values of their family. This colorful installation now serves as a unique focal point and conversation piece for their home.

Love creating stained glass windows like this beautiful, colorful peacock set in a garden of flowers. We can create anything in glass and in any dimensions. We create pieces by figuring out what you are looking to do in your space and we give you ideas by sketching up rough ideas that would look great in your home and from there we can both see what it will look like in the room, as well as figure out an exact budget that we would be working in. The process is fun and we work with clients near and far away, being that we ship all over. #stainedglass #stainedglasswindows #stainedglassart #stainedglasspeacocks #louiscomfortTiffany www.somersstainedglassbytriciasomers.com
