We ordered a mantle, shelf and gas fire from The Better Hearth. They sent their fitter to measure up and when the fireplace arrived it didn't fit. They had asked for full payment up front so there was nothing I could do when they refused to do anything to help. Avoid this place if you can, I've never experienced such bad service.

Dear Jane. We are sorry to hear that you are not happy. You came in to see the mantel you purchased in person before paying, and the one you chose was an off the shelf size. We made sure that it fitted your existing insert that you wanted to keep, your chimney breast, and your hearth. We completed the installation of everything, and it went smoothly. The only issue was some gaps in the skirting which - unless you had a besoke mantel made to size - was always going to be a possibility. The fitter has offered a few different solutions for this. It is disappointing that you have decided to leave a review, as we are still in the prcoess of trying to resolve this for you. Please see attached a photo of the finished installation.

We visited Better Hearth today after finding their information on the Stovax website. We said we were looking to get a wood burning stove and asked if we could ask a few questions. The salesperson told us that he didn’t give advice for free and that if we became a customer and paid a deposit, only then could we learn if the stove could actually be installed in our home. We felt that he didn’t think we were serious buyers (we are). Perhaps as we are a young couple he didn’t think we were the type of people to actually be buying a stove? We were essentially asked to leave. It was by far the worst experience we’ve ever had in a London shop, and quite shocked us.
