About Us

JH Strain Cartpentry's first major contract was to remodel the Petty Officers' Club at the Philadelphia Naval Yard for the Navy's Bi-Centennial in 1975. From then to now, we've been involved with historic restoration, new and not so new homes, and major renovations. Currenty 40% of our work is done for developers, while the rest of our time is spent with private home owners, and custom builders. Our company is a husband and wife team with years of experience in hundreds of homes. We enjoy working with people to develope the design best suited to their lifestyles. We are very capable of coming up with modern, classic, and traditional styles, as well as craftsman and colonial. Our goal is to provide a solid, well crafted job that we can take pride in and that our clients will be proud to have!

Joe Strain is a carpenter's carpenter. His work is impeccable. He makes sure that you are both on the same page throughout the project. His staff is neat, thorough, and polite. We received two different estimates and he was more reasonable. I would recommend JH Strain Carpentry highly.

I met with Joe and Andrea last year and had a very specific vision for what I wanted for my built in bookshelves around my mantle. There were about 5-6 pictures of each detail that I wanted combined. Joe was able to put together a drawing that captured every detail perfectly and then executed it with beautiful craftsmanship. They got everything done in the timeline and budget that was promised and were completely professional and kind people to work with. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

JH Strain recently completed a deck renovation for us. We were impressed by their professionalism, quality of work, creative suggestions, and ultimately, the reasonable estimate. They were prompt, quick, clean, and the job was done before we knew it, with outstanding results. It doesn't hurt that Joe and Andrea are so personable, which made dealing with them a pleasure.

Construction of a screened in porch and deck. Joe Strain is a very knowledgeable carpenter, who takes pride in his work and offers valuable insight on materials and construction options in the planning stages and works well when changes are made along the way. His work and his teams work is precise. They always arrivef timely and communicated throughout the project.
