About Us

BHD is a full service interior design studio handling both residential and commercial projects. Our focus is client satisfaction achieved by understanding and listening to client needs and executing them in an organized and timely fashion. Brett Helsham is an interior designer based in New York City. Following a childhood spent traveling and living around the world with her family, Helsham graduated with a BFA from New York University and an MFA in Interior Design from the historic New York School of Interior Design. "I was very influenced by watching my mother design our homes when I was younger," says Helsham. "Growing up in five countries, I was given the opportunity to witness interior design from the ground-up over and over again. I fell in love with every step of the process." Following her graduation, Helsham worked as an Associate Designer at Wettling Architects until 2013, when she signed on as Senior Designer for formidable firm Mr Call Designs. In 2015, she left to found her namesake studio, now working in residential, hospitality and commercial design internationally.

Brett Helsham is an absolute professional and a true pleasure to work with. Brett is going far in this business. I am in real estate development and have worked with all different types of designers, why Brett sets herself apart from the rest is she actually genuinely has great taste. Most of the design professionals i have worked with have a style and try to impose their style on the project, Brett actually designs within the style the project/owner desires as if it is "her style" Lovely person to be around, prices are in line with the quality of her work and she is very talented!!

Beyond a reasonable doubt, it was a joy to work with Brett Helsham and BHD. The front end of the process is the fun stuff - choosing the furnishings and creating the design of the space. However, making it a reality is a process, and often there are roadblocks impeding what we think of as a natural and easy steps. I found it is not easy, and the professionalism lies in her ability to navigate with ease not only my expectations but the expectations of everyone on board, making sure that everyone is on the same page. My only regret is the process is over, and now I feel I need to purchase a new home in order to start the process again!

Brett is a brilliant designer but her greatest strength is her ability to communicate and explain her vision--having worked with a number of interior designers over the past 3 years, the sheer joy that Brett injects throughout the working process stands alone. On the more practical side, Brett was immensely helpful in understanding my wishes and went above and beyond what I asked for--from designing custom storage pieces for my library to adapting a color palette entirely from a favorite photo of mine, Brett flexes her expertise in a way that's never pretentious--she's a client collaborator who elevated my own point of view to achieve a sophisticated, jubilant home aesthetic. I loved working with Brett and will do so again in the future.
