Coastline Building

Residential Designer and Builder John Zito was born and raised in Kalamazoo and started in the construction industry in the early 1980’s while attending college in Kalamazoo, MI. During summers, John received a “bird’s eye” view of residential construction from restoring homes in the historic district, to production building to laboring on high-end homes. After graduation from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo with a degree in Accounting, he worked for an area bank before starting his own accounting practice, providing services to many area builders and others in the building trades. With construction now a part of his DNA, John designed his first complete home in 1988 and has not looked back since. Along the way, while maintaining a private accounting service for the building trades, he became more active in design and remodeling. An appetite soon developed for energy efficient construction and in 1994 built his family home using double wall construction for the exterior walls, a first in the area. He expanded his repertoire to include framing services and in 2000, founded Coastline Building.
