While we do understand seeing any type of hazard warning on something you are going to use can be frightening, so we completely understand your concern.

In the State of California, the legislature has passed the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (although governmental agencies, and water suppliers do not have to follow this) also known as Prop 65. As of August 31st, 2018, all products with even the slightest trace of any chemical on their chemical list must carry this warning. Currently this even includes Starbucks coffee cups, Garmin GPS systems and even Albuterol Inhalers for asthma.

Currently, California has developed a list of almost 1000 chemicals they deem as chemicals with harmful effects according to their Safe Drinking Water Act. These chemicals are often found in many every day products as we touched on above. Moving forward you can expect to see them in products like Aspirin, anything with plastic, metal zippers, medications, and even in ink, like the type we currently use in our packaging.

By law, any product that is sold into the state of California must contain this warning moving forward. While it does really only apply to California, it actually is very proactive in forcing manufacturers to know what exactly their products are made of.

So while the warning you are seeing may have some initial shock value, as it’s not something you are familiar with seeing, moving forward this will become a norm by manufacturers from all verticals markets. We just decided to become compliant much sooner.
