D. Stone Builders built our custom home in a retirement community in Clemmons, NC during 2014. We couldn’t be happier with the results. As promised, the home took 5-6 months to build. Stone has worked with the same sub-contractors for years; they know his expectations for workmanship, and they deliver.
D. Stone produces a high-end home which includes in the base price: Rinnai tankless water system, 7” baseboards, 2-piece crown molding, brick and stone exteriors, windows that match each other on all sides, sod laid around the entire house, sprinkler system for both the grass and mature bushes, and a stylish garage door, to name a few things that are standard. We also had a choice of either building on a slab or crawl space.
Although we only met with D. Stone, himself, during the planning phase, we were in the very capable hands of the Director of Construction, Frank Marrara. We were in contact with Frank nearly every day, either by phone, text, or email. He immediately responded to our questions and any concerns that may have arisen. He had excellent working relationships with the sub-contractors as well as with us.
Some of the changes we made to our base plan included: creating a vaulted ceiling, adding a 3-way fireplace, totally re-configuring the master bath, enlarging the garage, adding under and over cabinet lighting, and adding a gas line to the grill outside. We were informed what the upgrades would cost up-front, so there were no financial surprises.
As we went through the building process we had change orders that included things like: additional recessed lighting, heated floors in the bathrooms, a purification system under the kitchen sink, upgraded appliances, upgraded closet organizers, and customized paint colors throughout the house. Everything was handled professionally and to our specifications.
When it came time to close on our house Frank told us to keep a runninglist of all of the things that will need to be addressed after a full-year of being in our home. The sub-contractors will come back to fix the things that need attention after a home “settles,” including nail pops, re-caulking and painting, etc.
In the meantime we have observed the differences between D. Stone builder and another builder who is now building on our street. Our sub-contractors made an effort to keep the work-site free of debris each night and to not disturb the community by playing loud music; not so with the other builder’s workers.
The other builder uses one kind of window on the front of his houses, and a less expensive window along the sides and back. His garage doors are mundane. Vinyl siding is used over the majority of the house, with brick and stone only on the front. Seed is sown, rather than sod laid, in the backyards. Additionally, these homes’ footprints are not customizable. Obviously, the other builder’s homes are much less expensive, and while they are more affordable there is a clear difference in the final product than a D. Stone home.
If you want to build a custom home I would highly recommend D. Stone Builders. He builds a quality home using reliable and skilled tradesmen who take pride in their work.
