Our basement renovation experience with De Vries Construction & Renovation (DCR) was excellent overall. After interviewing four different contractors, we decided to commission DCR to build our project. Dave De Vries (owner/operator) came well prepared to answer my many questions in what I would describe as an engaging discussion sharing his comprehensive knowledge and vast experience. Working from my own drafted conceptual floor plan, Dave offered many creative suggestions with minor alterations, which enhanced our usable floor space in practical and creative ways that I had not considered. Our home is a typical 1950’s bungalow in river-heights with a bit of a tilt and uneven floor, which unsurprisingly presented some construction challenges. Dave was always prompt in communicating his thoughts on necessary alterations to address issues. His suggestions and solutions consistently produced aesthetically pleasing results. I felt well guided and informed through the entire construction phase. Various stages of construction involved choosing materials and construction options that had cost impact. Dave has the knowledge and skills to clearly explain the pros and cons of which material choices were most suited to the task. This gave us considerable relief with confidence to make practical decisions, in what could easily have become a very stressful experience. The crew of plumbers, electricians, carpenters, tilers, and drywallers were highly skilled and competent. The project expense was well matched to work quality levels while completing the project in the time allotted. I would certainly recommend De Vries Construction & Renovation as an excellent choice for any home renovation project.

Hired Devries Construction in February 2023 to renovate our kitchen and were extremely satisfied! From start to finish, we were thoroughly impressed with the exceptional workmanship and professionalism exhibited by Dave and his team. We had originally been planning to sell our house in a year or so – but we needed to upgrade the basement first. We were hoping to find a contractor that could give us a reasonably nice-looking basement for a reasonably nice cost. We got a bunch of quotes – Dave’s was the lowest and the most detailed. Once the work began – Dave kept us up-to-date on progress, timeframes, next steps, code requirements, etc. He very patiently listened when we brought up change ideas and carefully explained whether or not the changes would even work, if not – why, and the cost implications. Dave and his crew are very skilled, polite, friendly and they obviously take great pride in their work. Although we had intended to sell in a year – now that the work is completed – its too nice to leave! We think we may stay a few years longer in order to enjoy it more with our friends and family. We highly recommend Dave & his crew at De Vries Construction.

Dave DeVries of DCR was to add a 1-bedroom basement suite in my smaller 1941 bungalow. This was done under Manitoba Housing’s Secondary Suite Program. I went with DCR based on price and references. The professionally done design was handed off to Dave. Dave took the project through all the required permits. He is a gifted communicator and brings extensive knowledge to the project. As his team worked through the renovation, Dave made a few changes to the design that were a definite plus. He was able to add space to the kitchen and bathroom and he came up with a nice closet for the entrance that was not in the original design. There were 2 levels to the existing concrete floor and, instead of raising the lower one as was spelled out in the design, Dave realized he could lower the higher one to gain 2 – 3” ceiling height in the kitchen and dining area. The bathroom shower had to go under a bulkhead so we went with a custom-made shower to gain some height. The tile work is beautiful. I was not experienced with choice of materials and colours and went entirely with Dave’s recommendations. The result met my best expectations. I really appreciated the attention to detail because I wanted this to be a first-class suite for my prospective tenant. Because the job was done so well, I had 7 written tenant applications and 3 on my short list, any one of which I would have been delighted to choose. I highly recommend Dave and his crew at DCR.

We had Dave and his crew replace our deck a couple of years ago and they did an outstanding job. Dave was excellent in helping us make some changes to the design of our old deck and fully answered all our questions. The price was very reasonable and the quality of the workmanship was second to none. The new deck was solidly built and met our requirements perfectly. It was completed on time and on budget. Based on our experience with Dave and his crew I highly recommend them and will definitely engage them for any future renovations or construction work we need done.

Dave and crew did our attic / firewall / garage ceiling a couple years ago, and now a full basement reno this winter. We can't say enough about the quality of their work, and their ability to execute (stay on schedule, deliver exactly what we ask for). Most importantly, Dave goes the extra mile to both explain what's happening AND to give advice/help us fix minor unrelated issues that pop up along the way. We highly recommend this firm.

We began an ambitious DIY basement renovation a few years back and left the basement unfinished and in disarray. DeVries Construction was recommended, provided a reasonable quote and started he job within projected timeframes. All staff were skilled, knowledgeable, excellent to deal with and respectful towards our home and pets. Dave was available through the project, willing to receive and offer suggestions/ improvements. We were really nervous planning our first reno (kitchen). We had a budget and really needed to stay on budget or very close too. Dave was able to make our dream come true. We had heard of many renos that go wrong so we had a lot apprehension. Dave and his team from day 1 put this apprehension to rest! These guys are the best! Warranties his work, very happy. Did an amazing job on our full bathroom Reno. Will definitely use him on our next project.

We had a concrete 1927 unfinished basement and wanted to bring it up to modern times. We wanted something that our family could relax in, our kids could play in and that would add value to our house when reselling. DeVries Construction delivered. In 8 weeks’, they added a full suite Bathroom, finished laundry room, office, recreational and mechanical room. I was worried that the work would be sub-par, have leaks or just be plain mediocre but the team exceeded my expectations and delivered a finished basement that I am proud of and better than my family dreamed of. Dave, Richard and all the workers were nothing but genuine and professional. They went through the plans time and time again, were communicative of any changes and decisions that needed to be made and were more than available to answer any questions we had through the whole process. They cleaned up at the end of everyday and went through their work with a tooth-comb to ensure they only delivered fine quality workmanship. We were impressed from the start. We did a complete kitchen renovation. The estimate was thorough and detailed. And within our budget. Every step was explained to us as the process started. The crew were exceptional, attention to detail was impressive, better than we expected. Dave and crew were talented and, we must say , pretty darn entertaining.
