About Us

We are a small Chartered Architects practice specialising in Sustainable Design, Consultancy and Research. We work very hands on, often with inexperienced clients on small to medium scale projects to achieve unique designs with a green twist. We also work with Universities and undertake cutting edge government funded research on climate change and sustainable design, so we are always interested in turning the latest ideas into practical mainstream solutions. The practice was founded by multi-award winning architect, Ian McHugh who has over 20 years experience in housing, regeneration and community projects. Ian is also a registered Code for Sustainable Homes assessor, a longstanding member of AECB and Green Register for Construction Professionals and an accredited Eco-Refurbisher. Ian has also been credited in various publications on housing and sustainable design and presented to international conferences.

Ian has been working on my behalf for over 12 months designing and managing the construction of my personal residence. In addition to the house the works included underpinning, retaining walls, and landscaping. He is a creative Architect and very pragmatic; he initially provided me with a number of design options that suited my budget. He assisted me from the beginning of his appointment with advice on contractual matters and dealings with the Planning and Control officers. Ian clearly has had extensive experience as a professional; his technical knowledge is very sound, he communicates well and and has an excellent eye for detail when supervising the builders. His speciality in "Green Construction" gave me a series of options on sustainable construction products and techniques and Ian provided me with valuable references and links to further information. Commented: My raised terrace or balcony dilemma. Connecting house to the gardenI would suggest the new high level patio should be just big enough to give a more relaxed feel as you come out, so you can throw the doors (or new french windows/bi-folds?) open on the same level and ...
