Haynes Kitchen Friends describe our renovated kitchen as “beautiful”, “expansive”, “bright”, and “not just more functional and accessible but elegant as well”. We renovated our kitchen, pantry, and adjacent laundry room. Our 22-year-old kitchen was still pristine, however aging and recent surgeries have made accessing items in lower cabinets extremely difficult. Improving accessibility was the main driver of this project. At minimum, we needed additional upper cabinets, deep sturdy drawers in all lower cabinets, well-planned adjustable shelving in the pantry, a door converted to a pocket door, large single-bowl sinks with garbage disposals in kitchen and laundry, under-cabinet lighting, and Instant-hot water tap. Achieving this required all new cabinets, appliances, countertop, backsplash, sinks, faucets, repositioning appliances, tricky complicated reconfiguring of the cooktop downdraft and venting and relocating the blower to the basement to allow custom drawers to be built under the cooktop, rerouting plumbing and wiring, and running additional electric lines from the circuit box in the basement through the finished ceiling to the kitchen. We were terrified! Wes Dickerson and designer Tarah Carnefix listened attentively as I pointed out the shortcomings of our kitchen and the goals we hoped to achieve. They very thoughtfully made suggestions and demonstrated they understood what we needed and wanted, yet never once pushed or tried to sell me on anything additional. They made multiple trips to our home, measured, submitted several possible designs, and brought subcontractors and the appliance rep to the house to ensure that what we needed could be done. They invested substantial time and planning before we ever committed to BACK, signed a contract, or spent a dime. I chose BACK because they are highly recommended by several friends who have used them multiple times, they have built an excellent reputation for 40 years, they have a network of the most skilled and reliable subcontractors, and they have a reputation for doing high-quality work and standing behind it in the future. Our job required orchestration of a lot of supplies and people. BACK is expensive, but if they can pull this off, they are worth it. Project Manager, Michael Seelbach, did not disappoint. He coordinated everything and everybody very well. He communicated clearly and frequently on-site or by phone one or more times/day. He is very conscientious, respectful, courteous, attentive to detail, prompt to respond and address any concerns or inevitable issues, and goes out of his way to be helpful. I would certainly request him again as PM. Designer Tarah Carnefix held my hand and expertly guided me through the myriad of decisions from infinite possibilities. She is exceptionally talented, quick, yet patient. I sent her photos of things I like, and she quickly found and narrowed down examples online or in a showroom. She was adept at keeping me focused during what can be an overwhelming process. Working with Tarah was fast, easy, and fun! She nailed it! Everyone on the BACK team and their subs was prompt, courteous, highly competent, attentive to detail, did beautiful work, cleaned up at the end of the day, and watched out for us and our cat! Another home run! Hail damaged roof, Back Construction replaced entire roof, worked with insurance estimates and still above and beyond expectations. Brian, Billy, Jasper and crew were outstanding, no problems, clean up and finish could not have been better! 10 year no leak warranty is quite an incentive. Jack Pattie with WVLK does radio ads for them and recommended Back Construction, top notch, that's a fact, Jack!

Our experience was terrible and frustrating. We had heard they were expensive but we found the experience to be overpriced with questionable practices. Sales pretends to listen to budget and requested amenities but in the end not included in inflated price and labeled as upgrades. Other items are noted as “owners expense”. Unfortunate, as the designers are good. We ultimately stopped the project as, questionable pricing and practices gave us concern. Be careful.

Every project I have had done around house, I have had BACK Construction! I have been very pleased with the work. Everyone involved has been very pleasant & enjoyable to work with. The work ethic of everyone has been great.....from demo phase to clean up to the finishing details to the finish product. I do not think I would use anyone else!!!!! I live in a house in the Kenwick area that was built in the 1930s and to my dismay, the subflooring in the bathroom started giving way. I got 6 different estimates and decided to go with Back - not because they were the cheapest, they weren't. I went with them because the salesman, Rob, actually listened to what *I* wanted without interrupting or talking over me, or insisting he knew what I wanted more than I did. He was also up front about some issues I had not considered and had actual specific reasons for what he said (vs only lamely saying "you will or won't like this") There was no irritating upselling, just respectful attention to what I wanted done. Because of this, I felt like if problem were to arise - and for sure they would - I could trust them more than the folks who kept trying to get me to do things I didn't want done (or telling me I needed things that I didn't need). My team consisted of James and Collin and they were such a pleasure. As an older single woman who owns a very old house, I'd had more than my share of difficult workmen in my home, but these two were a real delight. Due to the Covid pandemic I am working from home, yet having them working right next to where I have my "office" was no problem at all, and they were very easy to have around. Respectful, patient in explaining things, careful with their work, careful with my things, cleaning up after themselves, watching out that my 3 indoor cats did not escape... it was such a good experience. And their work was fabulous. James did such a good job with the drywall part making my horror show of a bathroom look really good. It actually looks much better than what I had hoped for since I was looking for a repair more than a remodel! In addition, this whole project took place during the February 2021 ice storm and they did everything possible to get my job completed despite it all. Because of the overhang at my side door, James had to regularly hack ice away from the steps to get in and he did so each time cheerfully and with good humor. And again, no interrupting, talking over, or mansplaining. They all seemed committed to doing what I needed done. I would highly recommend this company. I haven't had a lot of good encounters with repair people or contractors, so this was a very welcome experience.

I HIGHLY recommend BACK Construction for residential renovations. We had a very positive experience with them from start to finish. I value communication and responsiveness, and all three team members we worked with were very communicative and responsive. We worked with Jason Worrell to determine the scope of the renovation and to get a budget estimate. Jason was very patient with us as we added to and subtracted from the to-do list. Christa Krause was our designer and she was amazing. She took my inspiration photos, listened to what we wanted and hit the nail on the head with her design suggestions on the first try. She was also wonderful about helping us stay on budget. (We even came in a bit UNDER budget on the overall project!!) Tim Kinkaid was our project manager. He addressed every single little touch-up and tweak that we asked for. We were incredibly impressed with the high-quality subcontractors that BACK brought in to do the work. Our renovations included: new front door (slab only), new bamboo flooring in two rooms, a new natural stone fireplace surround, new countertops/faucet/sink/backsplash in the kitchen, and new floor tile in the main bathroom. BACK did a particularly amazing job with our main shower. They gutted the existing shower and designed and built out what I consider to be a work of art. Our shower now looks like a shower in a high-end hotel. The tilework is absolutely incredible (thank you to the Berkut brothers!). BACK and Young Brothers Plumbing were very creative and reconfigured our main bathtub for us, so it's much more functional now. I've seen in other reviews that BACK is considered to be expensive. That may be true, but their estimate was on par with another well-known and well-respected construction company that we met with, and we feel that we definitely got our money's worth. We were so pleased with the work they did we hired them again to install new flooring in our main bedroom, and we plan to hire them again soon to update our basement kitchenette.

Replaced the footings for my porch and deck, on time and within estimate. Good, personable people who showed up each day at 8:30 and completed the job through frigid January weather. I would use them again... oh wait, I did... to fix a kitchen cabinet issue. The Back guys are professionals that are easy to recommend. Not the low cost guys, nor should they be.

Back just finished my projects. I couldn't be more satisfied. Shawn Holman did us a fantastic job. Very professional! Kept us abreast of when parts were due, and came us abreast of material availability. In my opinion, he went above and beyond. he was also personable and easy to deal with. I RECENTLY HAD ICE STORM DAMAGE ON MY ROOF AND WATER DAMAGE INSIDE MY HOME . I CALLED BACK CONSTRUCTION AND QUICKLY HAD TWO APPRAISERS COME AND CHECK OUT THE DAMAGE . THE WORK DONE BY SCHON HOLMAN AND AARON HANEY WAS VERY WELL DONE . THEY DIDN'T WASTE TIME , CLEANED UP AND DID A FOLLOW UP PHONE CALL . I AM VERY PLEASED . KEN ROBERTSON

The experience was above and beyond expectations. Lee, Tarah and Charlie pretty much held my hand during the whole process. It went like clockwork. Couldn’t be more pleased. They remodeled the lower level of my daughter’s house and gave me a retirement home.

Schon Holman and Colin Horton tore down our old deck and replaced it with a beautiful new deck. They were professional, polite and pleasant to work with. They worked very quickly and skillfully, in spite of temperatures over 90 degrees. I highly recommend Back Construction!

My husband and I are ecstatic with the results of all of the recent projects undertaken by Back. We went through the Handyman division, with Wes Dickerson assessing our lengthy list of repairs and estimating the cost. There were more than twenty different items with a varied scope so we were impressed with Wes not batting an eye at all the requests. He referred us to Project Manager, Eric Reynolds. Eric scheduled people to do everything from constructing a fence around our pool to addressing a fogged window pane inside the house. We thought of additional repairs or modifications while the work was in progress and Eric always readily agreed. Schon Holman and Tom Gebhart were particularly attentive to our needs and demonstrated great insight and foresight into the the projects. Everything was carried out in a timely, proficient fashion with much attention to detail. We would highly recommend Back for your repair and construction needs.

The door installation was the third job I have asked Back Construction to do for me and will not be the last. This company is punctual, detail oriented and courteous. The workmanship is top drawer. After many poor experiences with other contractors, I will hire no other going forward.

Back Construction did a full kitchen remodel for me last spring. The attention to detail, communication and craftsmanship were amazing. There were two small issues that came up recently and they were back out to fix quickly. I appreciate a company that does amazing work and stands by it. I would not hesitate to recommend them!

I hired Back Construction to replace an exterior door leading to the deck that had issues due to long term leakage caused by improperly installed siding. In the process of replacing the door we discovered more extensive damage, and Joe Henson worked with me to evaluate the scope and estimate the repairs. Eric Ball and his crew did an outstanding job replacing the door, repairing the damage, installing new siding and replacing the decking. Each step of the way they made sure I was aware of and satisfied with the repairs that were done. I am extremely pleased with the final result and would gladly recommend Back Construction.

Back Construction Company replaced windows that had been damaged by vandalism. They were a perfect match to existing windows that were twenty years old. The company worked around our schedule since our facility is open to the public 70 hours per week. I hired Back Construction after a car ran into the side of our building. They were the ultimate professionals. The team was responsive and quick. There is a business that operates in the suite that got hit and they did an amazing job sealing up the work area so the business could still operate while they were repairing the damage. We needed work done on our back deck, including rebuilding the upper portion and screening the main section. After repeated unsuccessful attempts with other companies to even them to show up and provide a quote, a colleague at work recommended we try BACK. They responded promptly, visited shortly thereafter and provided an overview of the work plan and costs. The teams they sent worked in extremely cold temps and adverse conditions. Overall they did an excellent job. Site was left clean after each day of work, they detailed what they were doing each day and what to expect for the next visit. All workers were professional and skilled in their areas of expertise. The rebuilt deck looks great and has received positive comments from our neighbors. I would highly recommend BACK Construction for your future needs.

BACK Construction provided the design and overall construction of a room addition to my 62 year old home. The BACK staff and sub-contractors did an excellent job in a timely and professional manner. I am very happy with the finished project.

I contracted with BACK for my complete kitchen overhaul/renovation in 2016. I was apprehensive about the project because I had limited funds and even more limited experience in design and construction. BACK's designers and contractors worked with me patiently, answering all of my questions, and helped me achieve my dream kitchen within my budget parameters! (As of right now my kitchen is listed as Kitchen N on this site.) I have recommended them to several friends and would use them again in a heartbeat.

I found pros and cons of this company, but overall feel they provide a 3 star or "good overall" service. Similar to other reviewers, we selected Back due to their professionalism and high quality reviews despite a pretty high price tag, which they were honest about. They are also one of a few Pella door/window certified installers around. The communication throughout the project was fantastic. The salesperson was knowledgeable and helpful, not pushy. The project manager communicated well and the door was installed earlier than originally expected, which was wonderful. I had high hopes for perfection and unfortunately the job fell short. When we inspected the work after the crew left, we found that the brand new door screen and latch were both cracked and the door and trim we thought would be finished has 44 staple/nail holes that were not filled in and painted. These holes are noticeable and create a very unfinished look. On Back's behalf, they did contact me the next day to ensure my satisfaction (again, great communication). I shared my concerns and they are replacing the screen door, but claim the holes are common. Most are small, but they are very noticeable and to me, represent a company not good with the details. After spending $4300 on a patio door and install, I didn't expect to have to spend my own time and more money filling in holes and painting a brand new door that was supposed to be finished. Very disappointing. As a result, we will no longer use Pella products or Back Construction.

We had a closet installed in a new location, a laundry relocated from one floor to another, and a pocket door installed. This project involved electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and drywallers. The project supervisor checked in and out with me each day the workers were here. There was never more than one day of no work being done. (Once the project started, the supervisor assured it was completed in a timely and efficient manner.) Each and every crew cleaned up after themselves very well on a daily basis before leaving. Each worker was friendly and had pleasant manners. The bid was not the cheapest, but this company made sure all the work was of top quality and up to code. We got what we paid for - professional quality and service. Excellent job! Will hire again.

I used Back Construction because of good "word of mouth". I had difficulty with a brick leak near a window that had not been fixed well by someone else in the past. I thought that the estimate was on the high side but because I want it "done right the first time" I agree with the job. The job was NOT DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. On my black mortar home the first time the repair was done with standard beige mortar leaving at least to 2 foot jagged "scar" on my home. When I CONTACTED Back( the job had not been inspected after completion) the excuse was the repairman did not bring the right material the first time in spite of the on site estimate being done prior .Instead of getting the right material he proceeded with the repair. Back did come back and correct the repair and I have not had another leak but did I pay a premium price because it had be corrected and done twice. I still aggravates me when I here the commercial claiming its DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. Obvious it is NOT DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME EVERY TIME. BUYER BEWARE!!!!

Our project started December 5th with completion two months later due to the weather. We replaced vinyl siding with Hardie Board. The house was built during the 1990's and there was no vapor barrier. Sheeting had to be replaced etc. It was a big deal and entailed hard work made more difficult by the weather. Back and their sub were professional and dealt with this. This was our second project with Back. We will use them again.

Back construction did a wonderful job on our whole house remodel. Brett and Zach were so easy to work with everyday. They were very professional but always cared if we were happy with the job. If any problems arose, Back Construction made sure it was corrected to our satisfaction. Nicole was our decorator and did an excellent job helping us pick out everything in our remodel. She was so much fun to work with. We love living in our "new" home.

We are very satisfied with the replacement of our arched stucco wall. We heard that you were an excellent remodeling contractor, and now that the project is complete, we understand why you were so highly recommended. The complete process was very professional. “We build it back better” is true. Don Casciola – Sales Don was very informative in our first meeting to review the project and do an estimate. He made us feel comfortable about how the project needed to be done, and detailed the scope of work on the estimate. At our final meeting on site, before signing the contract, he explained who the project manager would be and other important details. Very professional! They installed new Pella windows for us and did a great job from initial discussions to installations and follow up. The actual installers were very professional, did great work very neatly and quietly and made sure we were happy.

Broadway Christian Church had a major water break that caused extensive damage and flooding encompassing 4 floors of our facility during extreme cold weather in January 2014. Back Construction provided excellent service, contractual advice, an on-site construction manager to personally provide oversight of the day-to-day projects, and handled competitive pricing for materials.

I had the pleasure of working with Back Construction's roofing division when they installed a new roof on my home. The crew was experienced and did an excellent. the job took a few days and each day the crew cleaned up after themselves and never left a mess. They were courteous and answered any questions I had. The materials they used were excellent and I felt confident in the work they performed for me. The foreman on the job kept me informed during the process. I am very satisfied with the work and the new roof. I also had them put on a new gutter system and I couldn't be happier with the new gutters.Excellent workmanship and materials.

Complete renovation of our upstairs bathroom. The renovation included plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, tile work and installationof plumbing fixtures and cabinets. Back was excellent in both the design phase and construction phase. The finished product met all of our expectations. The subcontractors were exceptional in terms of their skills.

We've used BACK Construction for several projects and improvements to our home. Each time the work was performed on a timely basis and the cost estimates were accurate. Minor problems which occurred afterward were promptly addressed and fixed to our satisfaction. Highly recommended!!

Rob has provided excellent service over many years. Services included water damage repair from a bathroom leak which was professionally completed in a better than new condition and Gutter repair and replacement. Rob and Back construction provides quality services, and are honest and trustworthy. They are always my first contact for work at my home.

BACK Construction performed a small remodelign job we had recently that involved many technical aspects. Our floor had to be leveled to within 1/8" over a ten foot span. It took a couple of tries due to this tolerance but they kept at it until it was right. The subs they used were well supervised and understood that just attempting to get it done would not be sufficient. BACK did thorough planning and complete follow through for this project. I will definintely seek them out on the next project we have.

Back did a fabulous job for us with our complex historic house restoration ... The early 1900's building was blighted and needed a complete renovation/restoration from top to bottom and the results exceeded all our expectations. All the work was planned and completed to comply with local, state, and federal historic preservation guidelines and the team at Back was very helpful with this process. It was great to work with such a pleasant, professional, experienced and skilled team... A truly customer satisfaction oriented company . Given the extent of the work that was involved in our project we have had amazingly few, mostly minor issues since moving in, and for any that have developed since they have been exceptionally responsive. They deserve this award !

The BACK did a impressive job. The estimate was true to the total. They went above and beyond to keep our living room clean. We needed our living room ceiling reinforced as it was starting to fall in. They fixed the ceiling with support beams and dressed them up to look like envious ceiling beams. The work took a few days longer than anticipated but was well worth the wait.

Single family home w/4 bedrooms and 2 baths, 71 yrs old - new windows & doors; new wiring & plumbing; redid two bathrooms, one closet & kitchen; total house insulation, plus painting inside & out and floors refinished; the workmanship was outstanding as were the workers, they stayed on schedule, answered any questions when asked and maintained ongoing communication and contact as did the BACK supervisor; my home feels and looks superb, there are no disappointments; it was and is an outstanding job with excellent value for the cost the job lasted from a portion of March until sometime in August, not as listed below

The project manager was personable & good to work with. The work was quality and the crew respectful and clean. The main negative was the amount of time the project took. We had a small bath remodel that should have taken just a couple of weeks, but there were stretches of days where we only got a few hours of work, which I believe was due to their priority on their clients with more expensive projects. Although we do have a second full bath, this was an inconvenience for much longer than anticipated.

Backs professionalism and project planning expertise exceeded our expectations. Options were explained clearly to help make decisions. Everyone would explain what they were doing and why when asked.

From the salesperson who advised about choice of hardwood that was durable, a suitable color and type for my home, of good quality and within my budget - to the tearing out of the old flooring and installation of the new - the process was seamless. The workers are not only knowledgeable but craftsmen. They answer any questions, anticipate questions, are courteous, efficient, timely, and organized. They work as a team. I am so pleased with my new floors. They are a beautiful upgrade. When a finished project looks like it's always been there - you know it's right. It fits the home.

Back Construction remodeled my kitchen just a little, but they did an excellent, neat job. They came on time and did an excellent job, both with their own workers like Rob, and getting subs. in to do more technical things like electrical and plumbing. They used exisitng pieces of wood taken out when new appliances were installed so the wood all matces. They also did some small, odd jobs for me at the same time since I am a woman living alone.

SCOPE: The project was to remodel the first and second-floor bathrooms simultaneously for a 44-year old house but with at least one camode in service at all times during demolition/construction. The activity included removing and replacing commodes and vanities, all galvanized iron water supply pipe and all cast-iron waste drain pipe. All plumbing wall drywall was removed and replaced on both bath levels. Tub was replaced for first-floor bath and both baths' floors were prepared for owner to install ceramic floor tile. The first-floor bath was prepared for owner to install the ceramic tile surround for the tub. All drywall finishing and painting and baseboard installation was to be completed by home owner. New camodes and vanities would be installed by contractor. Contract process was detailed and well-explained. All necessary code compliance, and presentation of proof of insurances was suppliesd in a very professional manner. PERFORMANCE: Mr. Toews was very patient and professional during the project planning/estimating process, and the project leader, Mr. Hodges, was very effective and efficient at moving the project along while allowing me to perform portions of DIY work interspersed with the contractors' work. From day one of the project all floors/stairs were protected with special coverings. Although a lot of demolition was required to remove drywall and piping the job site was left extra clean at the end of each workday. There was no trace of any drywall, wood, or plumbing debris or water at all and no damage to the existing walls, floors, doors, or woodwork occurred. Everyone who worked on the project exhibited very good craftsmanship in the plumbing and carpentry portions of the job. Another pleasant aspect of the crew was that they were always very cordial and very willing to explain their work procedures, discuss materials they used, and entertain minor change orders in a friendly manner as the project proceeded. OUTCOME: My being an engineer and project manager allowed me to have a hands-on approach to view the work quality as the project proceeded and I must say I was very pleased with the outcome of the entire project. I will definitely consider using BACK Construction on future projects.

Back Construction installed a copper roof on and addition as well as replaced our existing roof. They were professional and also did a wonderful job.

Back Construction almost did a whole house remodel. Remodeled Kitchen completely, installed tray ceilings in living room and dining room, re-work fireplace, remove two walls expanding kitchen and master bedroom. remodeled 2 bath rooms, refinished hardwood floors, moved outside doors, replaced windows, replaced outside brick where needed. upgraded electrical and plumbing. Painted outside of house. The quality of the work was so good you cannot tell where they replace sections of the hardwood floor, the fireplace looks untouched even the outside brick looks original. We lived in the house through most of the remodeling, the back workers cleaned up the site everyday, and were very curious to our schedule and needs. In a project this extensive we had several changes we wanted throughout the remodel. Back was quick to get cost and change orders. In the end we were only over budget by 1%. They still finished the project 3 weeks earlier than predicted. Our remodel is just the way we wanted-perfect.

Rob and his company have done two major renovation projects for us (Kitchen and Bath) over the last 3 years and the work is extraordinary. His company is very professional, does amazing work and the quality is 5 star. Both projects were also complex and involved moving walls and plumbing/electrical yet the results were outstanding . Back Construction remodlrd my home and did an add on of space that was completed in 2004. The work was completed on time as proposed at the strart of the job and the construction quality was excellant. We have been enjoying our remodeled and new space for almost 10 years and it still looks as great as when they finished the work. Rob Hundley oversaw the work and he was very professional in planning and completing the work timely and with excellant craftmanship.

My home needed some minor tweaking that included flashing on chimneys, dry wall repair, a door slab replacement and painting. Back Construction was wonderful to work for through out the project. BACK Construction completely renovated my bathroom in my ranch house built in 1953. Took everything except the big tub out----back to the studs. Fabulous!! Professional, honest, timely, and very very good at making things right when I had a concern. They didn't start the job until all supplies and materials were on-hand. The project coordinator emailed me frequently with updates. They had the expert plumber, the real-deal electrician, and the tile guy who knew what he was doing. My bathroom was beautiful, and all my neighbors came through to see it! I probably could have gotten in done for less money, but I MADE the RIGHT CHOICE!! When I put my house on the market in January of 2011 (not a good time to sell property!), I had a contract in 6 weeks! I'm convinced my bathroom sold the house. When my best friend bought a 70-year old house, and wanted to remodel---I referred him to BACK Construction. I was very very pleased with BACK, and would hire them again in a heartbeat.

If only I were able to light up 10 stars rather than the limitation of 5! BACK is a company that is able to take care of all aspects of your home from top to bottom - inside and out. Their service is prompt, reliable; they provide quality workmanship and always shows respect of the home owners and their respective properties! After the scope of work is outlined, everything falls into place within the allotted time. Their company organization is tight and well run. BACK should be renamed "QUALITY".

We contracted with Back Const. for repairs on our home. They installed a new dimentional roof shingle system, removed a wood deck system and replaced it with a concrete system, steps and walkway, completely remodeled a hall bath and made repairs to our front porch. We could not be more pleased with the results. The work was well supervised and the workmen, including the subs on the job,were courterous, attentive to details, neat and orderly about their work. The work was executed over a period of 2.5 months with minimal interruption of our daily routine. The follow up at completion was thorough and the supervisor made sure we were completely satisfied with every aspect of the job. We could not be more pleased and reccomend Back Construction to our neighbors.

Have used Back Construction for several projects ranging from small projects to LARGE ones.
