Nutshell Construction

We met Nutshell Construction when they tendered on our client’s Grade 2 listed conversion/extension/refurbishment in Ditchling, Sussex. Their enthusiasm for the historic building set them apart and their tender return was comprehensive and clear enabling the client to appoint them with confidence in the price. They have continued to impress with their professionalism, detail focus, and care over their work their staff are polite and respectful, so we have gone on to recommend them for other historic, and high-end projects. When clients have met the Nutshell directors, who take a site overseeing role, they instantly feel at ease and excited, which is good when you are about to take apart your home! Everyone can bring ideas to the table to ensure the client gets the result they are looking for and Nutshell have in-house craftspeople designing and producing bespoke joinery, and their refurbishment of historic joinery and windows at Ditchling has been of a high quality. As that building was taken apart there have been many unexpected finds in the historic building that have impacted on the project, yet throughout Nutshell have been responsive and unphased by the challenges that come with a listed building. We share similar values and like us Nutshell believe that the contractor and design team are all there for the same reason- to deliver the client’s vision, and therefore collaboration is the way forward. This project has now won 2 awards; A Sussex Heritage Trust award, and an LABC Award for Building Excellence, and featured in Sussex Life Magazine October 2018 issue.

We enjoyed being part of the team working with Nutshell on the demolition of an existing extension to an original cottage and replacing it with a new, two storey extension alongside a full internal refurbishment. The project improved the relationship of the ground floor accommodation with the garden and the landscape beyond and provide additional bedrooms and bathrooms at first floor. Nutshell were a pleasure to work with, during all stages of the project and we hope to work with them on future projects, of all types and scale.
