Mike Bacon of Fenland Architectural Design designed our proposed Orangery and side extension containing shower room, utility room and dedicated storage space. His interpretation of our requirements and incorporation of our initial ideas was 'spot on' in all respects. We found Mike to be knowledgeable on all relevant matters and he produced the draft plans to the agreed timetable. After minor adjustments he submitted the plans to the planning department. The plans were approved by planning. Building work commenced in September 2022 and progressed with few surprises. Building Control raised a few issues which were dealt with by Mike with a minimum of fuss. Mike certainly contributed immensely to, what has turned out to be, a very successful project.

Mike helped us by designing a ground floor lean to extension on our Victorian bakery. We have many original features and it was important to us that maintain the history and ambiance of the building but with a modern twist. Mike listened to everything we said and took on board our needs along with those of the project. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Nothing has been too much trouble.

Mike was extremely helpful with his knowledge through the whole process of Planning Permission and Building Regs. Whilst he had many ideas on producing an initial design based on my basic drawing, he was quite amiable in discussing and jointly agreeing the best design for our circumstances. He then successfully processed our planning permission through the authority including contacting suppliers to ensure we had a buildable roof structure within our plans. Following approval he extended the detail to achieve Building Regulation approval and upon receiving comments from them, quickly and efficiently dealt with the structural detail to achieve full approval. I would not hesitate in dealing with Mike again if I so needed, a really helpful and efficient designer ( and in my profession, a senior Quantity surveyor with a major national company, having dealt with many architects who usually are at the very least obstinate with their designs) A pleasure to do business at a very reasonable price. Good luck Mike, I will send you an invite to my opening ceremony.

I have worked with Mike on two very different properties in the last 12 years both of which required major upgrading ,modernising and extending .Mike has the rare ability to listen to your wishes and ideas and then with his expert guidance and design knowledge produce drawings and plans that have on both occasions received immediate Planning Permissions .

I hired Mike as an architect to draw up the plans for a ground floor extention. He was very efficient and value for money. He aided us with the planning permission we required and also with other outside sources we needed to liase with. Mike listened to what we wanted and came back with the plans within about a week. Our extension is now complete and we are very happy with it.

I have worked with Mike on a number of projects (from a simple residential extension through to the restoration and conversion of a large grade II commercial property) and intend to continue to use his services going forward. From first contact he is a pleasure to work with. He makes him self readily available, either in person, via email or on the phone - so any thought, issue or alteration can be addressed promptly. Been so approachable and adaptable ensures the design phase of the project runs smoothly and efficiently. Mike has a great eye matched with great knowledge, meaning he turns the concepts I present him with into great designs. In doing so Mike's extensive knowledge of the planning system ensures that projects pass planning permission smoothly: that said, he is not afraid to push the boundaries as and when the project / element of the project merits it - and in doing so provides me with all the pros and cons - as he does throughout the design process - to ensure I am able to make a informed decision in instructing him how to proceed.

Mike Bacon turn a rather horrible house in a beautiful setting into a really lovely house. The whole house was refurbished. Mike turned it upside down and reconfigured it so that it completely met the requirements of our family. This was not an easy task and he came up with ingenious solutions for several things such as how to move a staircase into the right place to make the whole house work. We now have a fabulous home with a 27 foot lounge looking over the sea, and a kitchen diner that can sit 12 round the table and still not feel crowded. Mike was very good at working with us to deliver what we wanted - but also to make it really special. These were his ideas! And he dealt brilliantly with Parish Council and planning issues. Advised us on what was possible and this saved us a lot of time and money not trying to achieve what would have been unacceptable to the planners. He also sorted out the dangerous and multilevel garden. Now safe and easy to use and enjoy. We love our home, it is special and the whole family continues to love using it. It just works for us!
