Northwood Construction just completed a major remodel and exterior upgrade to our home. This is the second remodel project that Bob Benedict and his team have done for us. Bob’s team is comprised of talented individuals that are skilled in many tradecrafts, are professionals in all aspects of customer service, and who honor and complete their projects on time and on budget. They are courteous, punctual, meticulous, and a pleasure to work with. Bob’s team and very capable subcontractors are what made our projects so successful. Our most recent project involved a complete remodel of an upstairs master bathroom and guest bath. We expanded the project to include a complete upgrade to the exterior with new siding and windows. The transformation of our home has been amazing. We were actively involved in all decision making and our questions promptly answered and addressed. We would not hesitate to have Northwood Construction back in our home for future renovations.

I just read Margaret’s review below and second all of her comments about the Northwood team. Northwood just did a remodel of a sitting room and very dated primary bathroom to create a large walk-in closet and bathroom/shower that involved moving walls and plumbing. What stands out most is, as Margaret noted, the process and the quality of the work. Prior to starting the project, owner Bob Benedict and team came out to make sure they understood the area - they wanted to suss out any hidden issues before the project began so they could figure out how to deal with them; then they spent countless (patient) hours with us on design using a computer program that helps you really understand and see how your rooms are going to look - and to make adjustments as needed. Whitney - our designer - and the firms we used to buy product from then spent dedicated hours helping us with selections. And before the project began, all the materials were in and ready to go. Roger, our project manager on site from start to finish, not only did much of the construction work himself but also addressed our every concern and as Margaret said, oversaw all of their excellent subcontractors (tile, electrical, plumbing, drywall and painting). Roger treated us and our home with the utmost respect. And, of course, we love the finished product and got just what we wanted - a no drama, well-executed, quality remodel.

Outstanding service and quality workmanship! From the moment I called Northwood Construction every person we dealt with was incredibly personable, knowledgeable, and focused on our kitchen remodel. Bob Benedict, the owner of Northwood, has an extensive background in construction and is thoughtful in his approach. Whitney Simons is an incredible designer and problem solver when it comes to designing around tricky spaces. Dan Clark was our dedicated project manager and contact throughout construction. Our project was a kitchen remodel and reconstruction of our back kitchen stairs leading to our basement. The remodel involved removing a wall between our old kitchen and dining, replacing the entire kitchen floor and weaving it into existing hardwood, replacement of 90+ year old stairs and reconfiguring our stair landing, installation of a full-house generator, and full replacement of the kitchen cabinets and appliances. Bob and Whitney spent a lot of time at the beginning of process talking and listening to me and my husband about our needs and wants for the new space as well as our expectations for the experience. They were genuinely interested in learning what our priorities were to ensure that their design and budget met our needs. Once we had a working plan for the kitchen and stair designs, Whitney and I met regularly to make product selections and finishes. Following the selections, Bob and Whitney provided us with a final budget and plan. Northwood's over all approach and process make it stand out from other design build firms. Firstly, they do not start work until all of your materials are delivered and in their warehouse. As a result, there are no surprise work stoppages because an item is back ordered or was late in being ordered. Secondly, they have a dedicated project manager for your project during the entire build. From soup to nuts, the same PM will be at your house every day and communicating with you regarding the daily work and upcoming schedule. If a sub-contractor is on-site, your PM will be there facilitating the entire appointment. Thirdly, the quality and professionalism of their sub-contractors is bar none. The electrician is incredible--he is so knowledgeable and really works with the homeowner to troubleshoot potential issues and make sure the final electrical plan really fits the homeowners' needs. The tile installer is an artist. His attention to detail and meticulous cuts really made our backsplash shine. We installed wallpaper on our ceiling and the installers were so gifted. Our house is nearly 90 years old, and the ceilings are not close to being square, but the installers did an amazing job. Finally, the Northwood team are so friendly and genuine you will be sad when the job is finished. It is clear they take a ton of pride in their work and strive to make the remodeling process as smooth as possible. We are over the moon in love with the final work product and kitchen.

We wanted a demo and rehab to create a laundry room, mud room, and new guest suite with accessible bath, along with new flooring, painting and electrical work in the house. We interviewed several contractors, were immediately impressed with Northwood – and our instincts were well borne out. Northwood worked with us to determine what we wanted done and at what budget – then promised what they would do – and fully delivered! Northwood’s employees and trusted trade partners were on schedule, produced high quality work, were a delight to have in the house and cleaned up afterwards. Just cannot say enough about our complete satisfaction with Northwood.

Our experience with Northwood was bar-none! We underwent a major kitchen renovation combined with re-flooring our entire first floor in one project. Very quickly, it became clear to us that the customer experience is their number one priority. Thanks to their amazing creative designer Whitney, we now have our dream kitchen in a design we never could have come up with on our own. We totally reorganized the whole layout and it looks better than we could have ever dreamed! We had on-site visits from the owner Bob Benedict, who wanted to personally check on the progress and ensure the project was right from the start...which wasn't even a question with our Project Manager Morgan. He was incredible. We literally didn't worry about a thing. He even came on Thanksgiving morning to get our drywall completed so that our schedule didn't get delayed. He was there every morning like clockwork working his butt off to get the kitchen ready for us by Christmas - and he did! It was a Christmas miracle :) Morgan's attention to detail and utter care for every square inch of our home was impeccable. He laid down floor protection and dust barriers and cleaned up his workspace every night. Not only did we feel so lucky to have him, but our three dogs looked forward to running downstairs every morning to shower him with kisses knowing fully well he had treats for them later. We will 1000% use Northwood again for our other home improvement projects. We cannot recommend them enough!!!

I wish all companies were as well run as Northwood Construction! From the first step to the last step, everything has been thought out. The owner, Bob Benedict, is professional, friendly, and has considered every possible detail of your project. I recently had my porch refurbished. This is the third project I have done with Northwood. Morgan came out and completed the work in less time than scheduled. Every day Morgan left my property spotless. If I wasn’t home, he would send me photos of the progress so I could keep up with what was going on. If I ever had a question, all I had to do was text and I had my answer within minutes! Morgan had previously done the remodel of my kitchen, two bathrooms, and fireplace so I was thrilled to have him work on this project! His work is impeccable! I give Morgan and Northwood Construction my absolute HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. You will be glad you hired them!

I have used Northwood Construction for renovations three times over several years: they completely renovated a kitchen when I lived in Reston, and renovated another kitchen when I moved to Leesburg, and did a complete renovation of a master bath. Everything they did was top-drawer, on-time, and well-done. Bob Benedict is a premier designer, providing me with very good ideas and quality materials. Morgan Shorey was project lead, performing most all of the construction and leading very qualified and professional subcontractors. The work was very well done, reliably on time, and professional. I would recommend this company to anyone and everyone. Great people, absolutely the best workmanship. Total confidence in them.

I just finished having my basement and bathroom in the basement completely renovated. Bob Benedict owner of Northwood Construction was the eighth contractor to come to my home and I knew within five minutes of meeting him that he would be the one I hired. I did and my experience with Northwood Construction was excellent. Bob himself is a terrific guy and very professional and knowledgeable. Best of all, he sent me as project manager, and indeed main man on the job, Morgan. I am sure that all of the people who work for Bob in this position are excellent but I can’t think that anybody would be better than Morgan. He is a superb carpenter and very knowledgeable in all other aspects of renovating. He worked diligently, completely demolishing the basement and bathroom on his own and then doing all the rebuilding and prep work for the subcontractors which included electricians, plumbers, tiling, painting, and carpenting. All the subcontractors were very skilled, professional, and extremely pleasant. The job came out perfect. I was left with a new basement and bathroom which I totally love, having picked out everything with Bob who personally went with me to every shop instead of leaving me on my own as the other contractors all were going to do. I was delighted with everything I picked out and with the outcome. Morgan even cleared out my garage and sorted out the unfinished part of the basement to make sure I would not be tripping over anything. Having just broken my arm before the job started it was great to have Morgan around. He always would help me out when asked and even usually without being asked. He is also fun and funny. I felt like he was a friend. I totally love my new basement and bathroom and everything that I selected along with Bob’s help and the help of the knowledgeable people at the shops to which Bob took me. Without qualification I recommend Northwood Construction Inc.

We recently purchased an old farmhouse, which had a poorly insulated barroom that we wanted to convert to an in-law suite with private bathroom. We wanted the renovation to stay in the style of the farmhouse look and to make the transition from the original part of the house to the renovated room look seamless. Northwood, with Bob, Don, and Morgan, were exceptional. We could not be happier with the room. Bob was straightforward and clear, from beginning to end. Bob explained that he may be more expensive than other contractors, which we were concerned about. But we stayed with them and are definitely glad we did. They were also accommodating with last minute changes and worked with us every step of the way. The best part of hiring Northwood was getting Morgan and his son, Jonathan. They were professional, courteous, and just wonderful. We were anxious about having people in our house everyday, often when we weren't home, but they quickly earned our trust. Our kids were sad to see them go when the project was done. Morgan always kept us updated, told us what he was doing, and even told us if he needed to step out to go get some supplies during the day. He would tell us if he ran into issues, and objectively told us what our options were (such as finding water damage behind the wall), without ever trying to up sell anything. We'll be sure to hire Northwood again for future projects, with the condition that Morgan does it again.

We highly recommend Northwood for your next project. Northwood just finished the third project for us and we are so happy with their work. Everyone on the Northwood team is easy to work with and they all have an eye for the details. Communication with them is streamlined with their on-line project management/communication tool, and they always respond to questions/concerns promptly. Best contractors we have ever had! Been in our house for 20 years so have seen our share of contractors and Northwood - by far- has been the best!
