Versatile Interior Designer Creating Unique & Authentic Homes | Sussex

Holly Christian is an Interior Designer and Stylist based in East Sussex. She specialises in historic properties and focuses on sympathetic restorations. With a background in taxidermy, she has the power and patience to breathe new life into existing spaces. Her projects tell a story of what was once before, but homes are now filled with modern detailing and luxurious living. She graduated from The University of Brighton in 2011 and has since worked in various practices in London and in Kent. She now finds herself as a freelance design consultant and stylist with a strong client base in the South East. Holly and her partner are currently refurbishing their own slice of Hove Regency architecture, which you can check out on her Instagram.

Holly was so helpful with a small project in the living room. Even by doing the work remotely Holly was able to get a good sense of the room set up and layout and gave me advice that really transformed the space. She works very quickly, Amazing value for money for someone so talented.

We worked with Holly on a Grade II house that was a challenging blend of Georgian and 21st century. Firstly, we liked her briefing process and her attempt to understand our tastes, for example she wanted to see images of our art, at that point in storage. Her initial concepts reflected her insights into us and her understanding of complex spaces in rooms that were rarely regular, and sometimes small, as was the case with two of the ensuite bathrooms. In particular, she transformed how we envisaged some of the spaces, inserting a TV into a room that had been a second sitting room and which saw only as a library and one of the small en suites. Secondly, we liked the way that she adapted initial concepts in the light of our reactions. Some designers become defensive, but Holly worked well with the grain of our ideas. Equally, she showed us things we didn't know we wanted until we saw them! Robert

Holly was excellent at listening to our sketchy vision for the lounge in our new flat and translating that into the design for an amazing, special space which we love. She was particularly good at suggesting key pieces (sofa, curtain fabric etc) which we wouldn’t have found or considered ourselves. It was a blank slate, so we needed advice on every aspect, and I think her design really maximised the existing features (like the sea view).

First up, just to say what great fun it's been working with Holly! Our Regency sea front apartment in Ramsgate had a lot to offer, but needed a huge stylish makeover and upgrade to bring it up to our requirements! And boy, that's exactly what Holly did! She conducted the whole makeover with such enthusiasm, energy and fun, bringing an elegance and refinement to all the spaces. Every decision she made was correct, and the sourcing of everything, from light switches and door knobs to the colour palette was spot on! You know that thing when you go out for a meal with friends, and order your food, then it arrives, and you see someone else's meal, and you think.... "I wish I'd ordered that...." That's what Holly gave us - an amazing apartment that we could never have realised on our own. Thanks Holly!!
