Prouty's Chimney Sweep was hired to inspect a house my wife and I had under contract. Prouty's Chimney Sweep inspection noted no issues on either the exterior surfaces of chimneys or the chase termination of any chimneys. Shortly after moving in, water was found to be leaking through a chimney during rain. The chase cap and cover were not water tight and were failing to prevent moisture from entering the chimney. These were specific inspection points that Prouty's noted no issues with. I contacted Prouty's and spoke to Greg Prouty about this issue. He explained that they would do nothing to remedy the situation because no moisture was present in the fireplace at the time of inspection. That explanation directly conflicts with the inspection points on the inspection report provided by Prouty's. In my opinion, it's one thing to make a mistake on an inspection like this and mistakes can happen. To refuse to acknowledge that mistake shows poor business ethics and reflects a business that should be avoided at all costs.
