Roger had great appreciation for our 1935 house and the construction methods used when it was built. The significant addition that Roger designed only complimented the house and our neighborhood. It was important to us to maintain the character of our house and Roger more than accomplished that, but also giving us expanded living space which we very much needed. Roger also recommended our contractor who worked closely with us on Roger's design.

We gave Roger the challenging assignment of designing a modern house that would fit into a traditional neighborhood. We were very specific how we wanted to live on the inside of the house--open floor plan with high ceilings, no window treatments, clean lines and simple details, and open views to the woods outside. The exterior of the house was Roger's problem alone to solve. We gave him no input on that, but we were thrilled when he came up with a "neo-Tudor" design. He listened to us, met all our requirements, and exceeded our expectations. If we had to do it again, we would not change a thing. Roger is a very knowledgeable, experienced, and professional architect. It was a pleasure working with him.

Roger designed our new screen porch, replacing what was a shoddy and unstable 10' x 12' porch with a grand, exuberant ~14' x 26' one that won the 2014 Beautification Award from the City of Williamsburg. We thought we had a very good idea of what we wanted. We even took numerous photos in Colonial Williamsburg to show Roger different features or elements we wanted to design into our project. (We have a Colonial Revival cottage in an historic neighborhood just steps from CW, so CW seemed like the perfect place to find inspiration.) We thought Roger would come to us with something very much along the lines of what we envisioned. He did that, and more--suggesting features and elements we could never have envisioned that make our porch extraordinary. In fact, he's working with us on another, more ambitious project: the rehabilitation of a down-on-her luck 1890 front-gabled Victorian in Cape Charles, VA--including (you guessed it!) a brand new screen porch and a guest cottage. We chose Roger Guernsey because he listens to your inputs and incorporates the customer's intent at every stage of the design process. It is truly a two-way communication. He also helped us through the bidding process for selecting a builder, and made himself available throughout construction to ensure that the design took shape as we envisioned it. This was the first and only time we will ever build a home, so we relied on Roger's experience to guide us, with great results! Highest recommendations!

What an outstanding experience working with Roger to design our sunroom! He came very highly recommended, completed the design and plans quite promptly, and well in advance of construction. The sunroom is going to be beautiful and just what we need to enhance our living space. Roger was thoughtful, considerate and creative, squeezed us into his busy schedule, worked with our contractor, our Architectural Review Committee and attended our HOA architectural reviews, all in time for getting the permits. Roger took our ideas ( he listens!) and with his exquisite sense of proportion and detail transformed our deck into a sunroom that is now the focal point of our living area. This he did with flare and skill and dedication. Whether it is the beautiful yet functional front porch or our open-space kitchen, we have been enjoying our home for more than 10 years. Our architect was attentive to many details, from our window trim to our outdoor fireplace to the winding of our the staircase. We continue to get compliments on the design.
