Urban Forest Furniture

Stephen is a true craftsman. We had the best experience working with him. We had a huge old sugar maple cut down and milled; we let it air dry in storage with the intention of one day hiring a furniture make to make custom furniture. We hired Stephen Hammer to help us design and build a kitchen table to showcase the wood from our beautiful tree. We settled on modern design reminiscent of Scandinavian furniture. Then Stephen set out to work. As things progressed, he emailed us photos of the progress, the dovetail and mortise and tenon joinery, the pieces he had cut, and so on; we even opted to see the table in progress in his shop. The table is the nicest piece of furniture we have, something we will treasure for a lifetime. Not only did Stephen do a great job, but he was a pleasure to work with. He was friendly, professional, and accommodating, always taking the time to answer our questions. We are fortunate to have found him and we highly recommend working with him.

We had a wonderful experience working with Steve Hammer of Urban Forest Furniture. My husband and I had a nebulous idea for a piece in our family room that would encompass both of our wish lists. We wanted it to be a “statement” piece that was fully functional for all of our media equipment but we also wanted it to be low profile and not overwhelm the room. We each had a vision of our dream piece and of course our visions didn’t align. Steve came to our house, took copious notes and was able to hit the mark for us on his first draft. We are both thrilled with our final piece. It is a beautifully crafted piece made from cherry and has minimal hardware. Almost all of the joints are mortise and tenon. The back was left open so the media equipment doesn’t overheat and there is glass shelving to accommodate everything. It is low profile allowing us to hang some artwork on the wall above it, yet it functions as that statement piece we wanted. It draws your attention as you walk into the room. Working with Steve was a true pleasure. His passion for his work is evident and his vision allowed us to get exactly what we wanted. Frequently he suggested things that we didn’t even know we wanted but have made the piece perfect. He kept us apprised of the progress and hand delivered and assembled the piece for us on time. We would use Urban Forest Furniture again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a quality, custom piece.

stephen and i worked together to modify his trestle table design to suit my project's needs. he was very accommodating and professional. his shop drawings were concise. the table was delivered on time. the trestle table was well built and is so sturdy i know it will last a long long time. i am grateful there are craftsmen out there who take such pride in their work. i highly recommend urban forest furniture.

I have asked Steve to complete a number of different projects, from completely renovating my living room, to refurbishing doors and rebuilding stairs for my home that was built in 1926. Prior to every job, he took he time to understand exactly what I was looking for and completed the work in a timely fashion. He understands every aspect of how the work needs match the existing architecture and excels at making his work not only match but enhance the rest of the home. Steve custom made a beautiful dining room table to fit the room size and style. The final product is an absolute delight and I couldn't be happier. He is a true artist.
