About Us

Suyama Peterson Deguchi (SPD), founded by George Suyama FAIA in 1971, is an architecture firm based in Seattle, Washington. Ric Peterson, FAIA, joined George as partner in 1983 and Jay Deguchi became a partner in 2002. The firm specializes in northwest contemporary design and offers a comprehensive range of services from architecture to interiors and furniture design. As architects our goal is to create spaces that evoke a quiet, emotional response. We believe that the use of elemental forms and minimal means can result in architecture that has nuance, depth and richness. Through a process of editing and refining we reduce distractions and decrease the visual noise of everyday life. As a result, our designs have an ambience that resonates whether they are for prized private residences, art galleries or experimental retail boutiques. SPD's South Park studio houses architectural offices for our professional staff, as well as 3x10 [Three by Ten], our furniture and accessory showroom.

I have been honored to provide SPD projects with custom cabinets and furniture, through a previous employer and now through my own business, for the past 15 years. The offices and staff @ SPD are highly organized and they communicate well. Their designs strive for perfection, are timeless, are enjoyable to fabricate and always enjoyable to visit years later. Fabricating an SPD design brings the best out of any crafts-person, from their craft to their ability to collaborate with other trades. The homes and projects of SPD are highly respected in the architectural world and I would recommend SPD for any design work.
