Andrew is a talented designer with a great eye. His projects all have the latest twist with a traditional foundation, blending to seem right out of the pages of a magazine. I recommend him often to my clients. We used his firm personally, as well.

We worked with Andrew Outerbridge on several projects both for personal and professional use. In every instance, adaptive reuse, energy conservation and renewable energy was of paramount importance to us. Andrew incorporated solar energy, insulated concrete forms, radiant floor heating and geothermal systems where necessary. In addition, he found use for the recycled building materials we had sourced. He is a pleasure to work with, and listens to what the client wants while bringing ideas to the table that the client might not have thought of. We would definitely use him again.

Andrew Outerbridge is the most talented designer that someone who is conscious of the value of a dollar can hope to have on a building project. I believe that his creativity in design is matched only by his ability to determine where a client’s money should and should not be spent, probably as a result of having done so much design/build for his own account over the past four decades. He is very cognizant of where a design element is folly and where an element adds value. I have used Andrew on multiple occasions (at seven different properties) to design two oceanfront houses for me in New York, bring another oceanfront house up to code, expand and renovate different areas of a house in New Jersey (including winning an award for the design of my exterior patio and spa area), design a finished basement at another New Jersey house, provide a restoration plan for a farmhouse in Vermont, and provide design ideas for kitchen and bath renovations for my condo in Washington. He has an incredible ability to see beauty where others cannot. I think that his eye for lighting and his keen sense of what materials (e.g. types of wood or stone) are appropriate for a project set him apart from an architect. For example, when I expressed concern about the possible fire dangers of a particular type of siding, he introduced me to a particular hardwood shingle that was not only naturally fire retardant, but was naturally bug resistant (and it lasts several times longer than what the material proposed by the builder). While Andrew is not an architect, in my opinion his design abilities are far superior (he brings in engineers and/or architects as necessary to certify drawings when required for submittal to authorities). Even when Andrew was partnered in business for many years with an architect, I insisted on dealing with Andrew on all elements of design because, simply put, it was Andrew’s forte, and the architect lacked realistic imagination (again, in my opinion). Finally, given that Andrew hails from Bermuda, he has an acumen for how to build to withstand harsh oceanfront environments of wind and salt. I recommend Andrew Outerbridge and his design abilities without hesitation here, just as I have recommended him to friends of mine searching for design or architectural assistance.
