Drawer and Cabinet Hardware

Small but so useful, drawer and cabinet hardware is essential for everyday use. While most cupboards, cabinets, drawers and units come with drawer pulls and hinges, it's possible to customise your furniture yourself by adding your own cabinet hinges, bar pull handles and cabinet knobs to create the perfect finishing touch. You'd be surprised what a difference a new door knob makes to your wardrobe, or a new set of kitchen cabinet pulls will do to the rest of your kitchen.

Is it easy to install new cabinet door handles and drawer knobs?

With most furniture and cabinetry it should be dead easy to change or install door pulls, drawer slides, cabinet latches, knobs and handles; all you'll need is a screwdriver and possibly a wrench. Look for screws on the inside of the drawer or cupboard door where the handles are attached and slowly start to unscrew the current fittings until you can completely remove them and be left with a clear hole. Then remove any washers and nuts from your door knob or handle, put the screw through the hole, add the washer and nuts to the screw on the other side of the door or drawer and secure tightly (with a wrench if necessary).

What style of cabinet and drawer hardware should I go for?

If you like the shabby chic, vintage, industrial, or any eclectic style, then there are thousands of great drawer and cupboard handle and knob designs that will add a bit of colour or interest to your furniture. There are stainless steel, polished chrome, antique brass, polished brass, satin nickel and many more designs to choose from. Even if you're more into sleek lines and contemporary design, there are black cabinet handles, glass round knobs, metallic cup pulls and clean shapes to choose from. For a more traditional look, you can find brass cabinet drawer handles to go with dark wooden furniture. Ceramic decorative hardware is a really easy way of getting the vintage look and there are all sorts of patterns and colours to go for.

While most cabinet hardware is easy to install, always check measurements and specifications before purchasing to make sure your drawer handles and cupboard knobs will fit with your furniture. There's no use picking out beautiful cupboard door knobs and furniture hardware only to find that they are too short to fit through the door.
