Flush Ceiling Lights
What are flush ceiling lights?
Flush and semi-flush ceiling lights are a type of light fitting that fit flat or very close to the ceiling, making them a great way to add light where overhead space is limited and create the illusion of a larger room. Whilst a flush ceiling fitting sits directly on the ceiling, a semi-flush hangs down several inches, leaving a bit of space between the ceiling and the fixture.
What kind of flush ceiling light to buy?
With so many styles and designs to choose from, it’s easy to be overwhelmed when shopping for your new lighting. Not only can your lights affect the overall style of your room, but they are also responsible for creating that cosy ambience you’re after, or for providing the direct illumination you need. From sparkling crystal designs to warm globe diffusers and brushed metal vintage shades, the possibilities are endless. However, to help you out, we’ve put together a short list of things you should consider when making your choice:
Flush or semi-flushThe style that you choose will primarily depend on your ceiling height: for low ceilings below 200 centimetres, opt for a flush light. However, if you have a table or counter beneath your light fitting, or if your ceiling is between 210 and 250 centimetres, you could opt for something slightly lower: choose from a range of traditional and contemporary semi-flush ceiling lights in a whole range of styles. In general, flush fixtures are great as hallway, living room, bedroom or bathroom lights, whilst a semi-flush ceiling light adds a stylish touch to a kitchen nook or the dining room.
Shade styleThe style and material of the shade that you choose can completely transform the look and feel of your room. Whilst clear glass shades emit a bright, direct light, frosted glass helps to diffuse the light and produce a softer glow. And if you want to make a statement, why not opt for a Tiffany-style stained glass shade to flood your home with warmth and colour.
BulbLight bulbs can have a huge impact on the ambience and mood of your space, and different styles work better in different rooms. Whilst incandescent bulbs create a warm feel, LED flush ceiling lights are a great energy-saving alternative. On the other hand, if you’re after a bright light or task lighting, halogen lights are the way to go.
