Panel Beds

Panel beds are one of the most popular type of beds, after divan beds, and are very simple in design. But what is a panel bed? It’s not a term used that often here in the UK, but it’s a standard design that is used the breadth of the country. A panel bed refers to a bed frame that has a headboard and often a footboard attached. Unlike a divan bed, it is made up of one piece and usually has legs and space beneath the bed.

Wooden bed frames with slats are the usual design, but you can find a huge range of panel beds including double bed frames, beds with upholstered headboards, high beds, low panel beds and metal framed panel beds.

Wooden panel beds are the most traditional but you can find them in various types of woods and finishes – a rich mahogany will work beautifully in a sophisticated bedroom, while a light pine will keep things bright and breezy. Small double bed frames can be found with simple designs if you need something to fit neatly into a small room, but if you have lots of room to work with, consider a panel bed with a large headboard, perhaps upholstered or with a decorated trim.

Most panel beds will come in the standard bed sizes – single, double, king and super king. As panel beds may not necessarily come with a mattress, double check the mattress you aim to use will sit properly in the bed frame; precisely measuring both the frame and the mattress.
