Bordallo Pinheiro began his ceramic production in 1884 at the Fabrica de Faiancas in Caldas, creating pieces of great technical, artistic and creative quality. His work included traditional azulejos (blue tiles), panels, pots, table centrepieces, vase busts, fountain basins, pitchers, plates, perfume bottles, gigantic animals and much more. This dazzling variety and prolific production earned him gold medals in numerous international exhibitions (Madrid, Antwerp, Paris and St. Louis). Despite the quantity produced, the quality of his work was never compromised.
Today, over 130 years after the factory first opened, Bordallo Pinheiro pieces are still being produced to the exacting standards and in the dazzling style that the great man pioneered. Modern technologies and contemporary sensibilities have been adopted, adapted and assimilated to ensure that the pieces the factory produces remain at the cutting edge of style and technique.
