Towel Rails

There's nothing worse than using a towel which hasn’t dried off since last time you used it, which is why investing in a towel rail for your bathroom is definitely worth considering. Bathroom rails provide your towels with the space and air they need to dry out properly, and to ensure you have a lovely dry towel every time you need one.

What is a towel rail?

A towel rack is a bar, rail, ring or rack from which you hang towels to allow them to dry. They are mostly found in kitchens, bathrooms and cloakrooms, and can be wall mounted, over-radiator or freestanding.

What size towel rail do I need?

For a small cloakroom, a towel ring is a good option; it’s small and discreet, and is the perfect size for a hand towel. A single towel bar should be large enough for an ensuite bathroom, whereas a double towel rail is more suitable for a larger family bathroom.

Which towel rail should I buy?

There are loads of different kinds of towel rails to choose from and the type you choose will depend on where you intend to put it, how many towels you have, and your budget. Here are some of the most common types of towel racks:

Wall mounted towel rail:

Wall mounted towel rails are the most popular type and can be found in a range of different shapes, sizes and materials. Towel radiators, rings and bars are all wall-mounted and take up less space than freestanding models.

Freestanding towel rack:

If your bathroom wall space is reserved for storage cabinets, or if you don’t want to fix, drill or mount anything on the wall, then freestanding towel racks may be the way to go. They are portable, often have more room for towels than wall mounted options, and are easy to install.

Over radiator towel rail:

The ultimate space saver, an over radiator towel rail is the perfect solution for bathrooms with limited floor and wall space. Over the door towel bars also provide space-saving features whilst hiding your towels behind the door. Opt for a steel rail over a plastic one for durability.

Heated towel rail:

Many homeowners now choose heated towel rails for the luxury of a warm as well as a dry towel. Heated towel rails are more expensive than other types, and may take up more space in your bathroom, but they also provide space for multiple towels and will dry your towels off at a quicker rate.

Single towel rail:

If you’re looking for towel rails for small bathrooms then a single towel rail could be the way to go. With a single bar on which to place your towels, these towel rails are great for ensuites. Opt for a wooden towel rack for a more traditional bathroom or a chrome bar for a more modern effect.

Double towel rail:

If you have a large bathroom or a lots of people using it, consider getting a double towel rail. They have two bars which subsequently provides more space for towels, making them a great choice for family bathrooms. However, they also make great kitchen towel rails, as they provide ample space for wet cloths and tea towels.
