Wall Clocks

Stay on track and never be late to work, school and important meetings again by hanging a wall clock in your home. Not only will you be adding a beautiful design feature to your wall, but you’ll also eliminate the need to hunt for your phone every time you want to check the time. Read the following tips to find the ideal wall clock for your home:

What are the different types of wall clocks?

There are three main types of wall clocks – pendulum, quartz and digital:

Pendulum Clocks

A pendulum clock is a type of clock that uses a swinging weight (a pendulum) to keep the time. Traditionally cuckoo clocks used pendulum technology to keep the time, although many modern cuckoo clocks now use quartz clock technology.

Quartz Clocks

The most widely used method of timekeeping technology and probably the image that springs to mind when you think of a clock, quartz technology is used in many types of watches and clocks.

Digital Clocks

A digital clock displays the time digitally (rather than by moving hands on a clock face) and can be powered by batteries or by an electronic power supply.

What style wall clock should I get?

Wall clocks don't have to be traditional Roman numeral clocks, there are so many designs and styles, from all through the decades, to choose from. For unusual and novelty wall clocks there are animal, star and sunburst shapes and many other wonderful designs that clockmakers have come up with. To help make a decision on style, think about where you're going to place your wall clock and how it will work with its surroundings; do you want it to be a standout piece or to blend with the interiors? You could choose a particular colour from nearby furniture, flooring, accessories or window treatments that could make a cool colour accent in your clock. Opt for a grey wall clock for a more subtle look, or a black wall clock for a more bold, contemporary style.

What size wall clocks would suit my space?

This depends where you’re going to put it and they space you have available. As the kitchen is often the hub of family life, a small wall clock which doesn’t take over precious space for appliances may come in handy, especially for timing cooking and for keeping an eye on the time before heading to work or out on the school run. If the main purpose of your clock is to be a design feature, then a large modern wall clock or unusual pendulum wall clock would add visual interest in a living room or bedroom. If you have the space, why not opt for a large, extravagant design that will act as a feature on a blank wall? It's a good option if you can't decide on art work or whether to wallpaper an empty wall or not, too.
