About Us

Akira Yamanaka Architects (AYA) is a London-based sustainable architectural design studio founded by Akira Yamanaka, a RIBA chartered architect and a certified passive house designer. His interest in sustainability stems from his experience working on the pioneering sustainable development BEDZED at the beginning of his career. As an architect based in London, Akira has more than 20 years of extensive experience, especially in the fields of sustainable residential, educational, performing arts and community buildings. AYA offers their design expertise with a design process incorporating the most advanced digital design technologies, hand sketching and skilful craftsmanship, to achieve functional, sustainable, aesthetic and economically viable design solutions.

Akira Yamanaka Architects created a display for an exhibition at the Embassy of Japan in London. Akira's commitment and in-depth knowledge of a specialised subject was crucial to the project. I recommend him extremely highly.

Akira Yamanaka Architects designed a loft dormer for my property. He overcame the low ceiling height of the attic by devising a clever design and negotiated with the Local Authority maximising the loft space . I recommend him and his practice to anyone who would like to have a good extension or renovation.
