Atelier Brown Ltd

Our experience of working with Atelier Brown has been outstanding from start to finish. I started looking for an architect partner for a new major renovation project I was working on back in 2023. We had bought an old chalet style bungalow in half an acre of garden and had ideas of how we wanted to better use the available space, how we wanted to live, and how important it was for us that the house and garden were better connected. I attended several shows including Grand Designs and the Build It Live show and spoke to several architects, but they all typically gave me the same reply … “Knock it down and start again!”. We had a very tight budget, and our focus was on adding more living space - so knocking it down was not an option as we had insufficient money to cover the re-build of a house of a similar size. I found Atelier Brown through an online platform called BARK. I was immediately impressed with their speed of response, their willingness to respond to the brief and the examples they provided of their previous work. It showed their flexibility in working with the character of existing buildings and their creativity and attention to architectural and interior design. They demonstrated that they could bring modern touches whilst also preserving the character of the existing property. We appointed Atelier Brown in February 2024, and they immediately set to work on brainstorming ideas. They took on board all our hopes and wishes for the final house and listened carefully to all the complex requirements we stipulated. After a few creative iterations we hit upon a design that had everything we hoped for and more! Tom led the architectural work while Rita led the interior design. Tom is an absolute pleasure to work with. He is kind, patient, passionate about his work and incredibly committed to delivering outstanding work that the client loves. Rita is just as amazing and shares a similar passion for creating homes that look incredible on the inside as well as the outside. Our final design connects the house and garden as if it were one, it brings light into all the rooms and opens the existing rooms giving beautiful aspects from all angles. Atelier Brown also brought incredible touches like pop-out windows and glass atriums to connect the different wings of the house. They introduced elements to the design that we would never have imagined. Details like the garden rill and sunken patio, the innovative shape of the west wing and the split vaulted ceiling in the garden room are just a few of the amazing ideas they brought to the project. We were also impressed with the quality and detail of their technical drawings and how Tom and Rita gave their time to support conversations with the potential kitchen providers and our chosen builder. Overall, it has been an amazing experience from start to finish. I cannot recommend Atelier Brown more highly, and cannot thank them enough for their creativity, passion, energy and patience.

Rita’s services helped us re-imagine our project completely. She helped us utilise the existing space we had to its full potential without needing to extend the property which we thought was not possible. Her high level of detail and bold designing helped us get the look we wanted and have the house we dreamed of become reality. I would recommend her to everyone, even if you think you have it all figured out. Rita listened to our requirements and designed something around us and found things we didn’t even know we needed. The Atelier Brown have provided us with a full architectural service between 2020 and 2023. During this time they have expertly guided us through lengthy, complex preplanning and full planning applications for our project on a site of historic interest, progressing to the tender process and subsequent hire of a principal contractor as well as many subcontractors. They have diligently overseen the build of our significant extension though to its successful completion and sign off in December 2023. Tom has an exacting eye for detail and a comprehensive first hand knowledge of all aspects of the building industry, meaning he has always had workable solutions to the few problems encountered on site ready to hand, and has consistently gone above and beyond to deliver a superb result for us. Rita's artistic flair has helped us evolve and achieve the look internally that we were wishing for also. We found this company by chance, and consider ourselves extremely fortunate, as they have been responsible for the execution of such a smooth project. We cannot recommend them highly enough, for any project big or small.

We engaged with Atelier Brown last year as we were looking to put an extension on the back of our semi-detached property. Rita and Tom have been absolutely brilliant, Tom helped us design an amazing extension and he incorporated everything we wanted and came up with some great ideas. Rita very quickly responded to all of our questions and was always very happy to help with recommendations of builders etc, and other helpful information. We put our project on pause for 6 months due to a number of things, but we have recently decided to go ahead with the extension and again Atelier Brown have been there to offer support and guidance. I can't thank the team there enough.
