I came across Design Solutions Architecture Ltd when searching for local architects to Poynton, Cheshire to help with my home extension project. I was really looking for someone who could not only draw up the plans, but also support with submitting the planning application on our behalf and dealing with the admin side of things with the council, that I didn’t really have time to do myself. I was recommended to Design Solutions Architecture Ltd. and within minutes of meeting Simon, my partner and I knew we were in good hands. Simon advised my partner and I of work he had done in the local area so we had real time references for his work, and of course I went and had a nosey, who wouldn't?! His work was first class and viewing the final project up close and personal was really beneficial and reassuring for us. When we received the working drawings on A1 we were blown away, they looked absolutely incredible and when we've shown trades the drawings either on PDF via an iPhone or hard copy, they've always received the wow factor - And that's all Simon's work, I'm taking no credit at all. Simon talked us through each stage of the process clearly and methodically, telling us how he wanted us to work with him to make the process more streamlined and how best to reduce any delays. Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council's planning department were quite slow with their internal processes and that was disappointment, but there was nothing Simon could do, although he did write to them on our behalf to give them a polite nudge on a couple of occasions, which clearly did the trick and we got the desired outcome. Simon is more like a mate when he calls now and it's important he should know that the kettle is always on should he want to pop by for a chat. Simon helped us design our house from a 3 bedroom to a 4bedroom. The flow of the house is now so much better for us. Simon has a sensitive eye for design while also being conscious of your budget. Simon came highly recommended from a good friend. The words "Attention to detail" struck a chord with us. Simon got back to us quickly and within a week he visited site. His promptness, friendliness and explanation of how the process worked made us feel like we were in safe hands. Having agreed to work with Simon an e-mail swiftly followed clarifying each of the stages and the costs allocated to each. Our extension is a little unusual in the space to be utilised was a strange shape. Simon's design certainly made the most of this space creating a light airy lounge overlooking the garden. He also designed the downstairs wet area and store. Upstairs Simon again made us see how to utilise the space better and created a look which we hadn't considered. The planning is all taken care of and Simon keeps you updated when necessary and prompts the payments required for this process. Our build starts this Spring and we are totally happy that we are going into the next phase armed with all we need to have a successful build.

Simon's creative use of space and light has taken two design briefs from the mundane to a level beyond my expectations. He obviously listened carefully to my requirements and surprised me with little twists to enhance the look and workability of his designs. The first, a kitchen / relaxation area opened up a new way to live my home life. Together with the introduction of a ground level bathroom area as part of the plan resulted in a much more efficient use of downstairs space for my family and entertaining. This addition was a lovely and total surprise. The second brief for a pottery studio, to be on what remained of a triangular plot of land. The large kiln has it's own area away from the main studio working space, leaving a very useful space for a work table, potters wheel, storage etc. Light, is again introduced via a highly placed long window on the south facing wall allowing much needed storage and display space below. A very perceptive and understanding designer. I have not used him twice for nothing.
