We are an architectural design practice working with both commercial and residential projects. The practice was formed in 2002 in London. From 2017 it now operates from studios in Nottinghamshire, and has a wide range of experience in diverse scales and types of projects ranging from interior design, to architecture and urban planning.
Our objective is to provide the highest possible standards of design on every project undertaken. We seek to achieve this aim by listening to our clients and then adding value through design innovation and performance.
Our role is to lead the client from the initial conceptual idea to the final details of the spatial proposal, encompassing lighting and furniture design and the specification of material finishes, furniture, fixtures and fittings.

Julie looked at a range of designs for a house extension, and worked with me to select a preferred option. This work extended to management and submittal of the planning extension and the project will extend in 2020 to specifications for all materials. Julie helped me greatly understand what was possible in the design process and supported with the regulators for planning. When we wanted to convert two bedrooms, one with a tiny en suite, into a master bedroom/bathroom/dressing room we asked Julie to design the new plan. She had wonderfully fresh ideas for opening up the space, including floor to ceiling doors, a clever screen wall that separates the toilet from the bathroom proper and a beautiful curling snail shell of a walk in shower. She also proposed a stunning polished plaster for the bathroom walls and a floor covering of marble chips in the bathroom and rubber in the bedroom, which gave the overall scheme a wonderfully textured feel. We have loved living in the rooms she created. Her only weakness was in keeping inside the budget. Though she had some good ideas for keeping costs down (such as using an IKEA cupboard scheme in the dressing room) she was inexperienced about how costs could mount during a build and it was clear she didn’t find this part of the assignment interesting or her problem to manage. As a result the job went considerably over budget. mounte

I appointed Julie Richards in January 2016 to carry out a complete refurbishment of the two bedroom 'Warner' style maisonette I own and rent out in Leyton, London. It was agreed the works should be completed by April at the latest, and this was achieved.
The property had fallen into considerable disrepair during a lengthy tenancy of almost a decade, only fetching a low rent that reflected this state of affairs. In January 2016 the existing tenant moved out and I took this opportunity to bring the place into line with average rental prices for the area, which valuations indicated had risen a great deal since my original investment.
Within a strict budget of 25k Julie's brief was, therefore, to strip the place out entirely and build it back up to a standard that would guarantee the financial return necessary to recoup the expense, whilst providing enduring value going forward.
It was a given that the kitchen and bathroom would have to be completely replaced. Julie's choices were tasteful, economical and above all - with limited space - practical. All the existing decor had become too tired to be restored effectively, so Julie also designed and oversaw a complete redecoration.
Of course scratching the surface brought ever greater issues: large areas of plastering coming away, and the apparent obsolescence of the electrical circuitry and aspects of the plumbing amongst them. She coped admirably with all of these things as they arose.
She also showed an appreciative touch with some of the more 'period' features such as sash windows, sliding doors and wooden floorboards stripped, sanded and varnished to remarkable effect. (We never did get round to rehabilitating the bricked in hearth due to the narrow budgetary restraints, but the will was there!) The lighting design was also improved, adding to the overall feeling that my property had been transformed beyond recognition.
Julie managed to incorporate these things into her scheme of work without - as I greatly feared - allowing timescale and budget to spiral out of control. She negotiated with a wide range of tradespeople directly herself, many of whom were her existing contacts. This was all a great relief to myself, having never embarked on a project of this scale before.
