Mattinson Associates did an amazing job securing planning permission for our new build family home in a very difficult site surrounded by ancient woodland and in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Our new home has been built carefully around the trees and has become part of the woodland. The house is still under construction but the likeness to Lindsay’s original concept design sketch already is uncanny! Such a beautiful design and we can’t wait for it to be finished!

I worked with Lindsay and her team on many projects when I was a Planner on the IOW. Easy to work with, professional, and solution focused. We worked together on a variety of things, from simple extensions to bespoke dwellings. A keen eye for detail, and a passion for contemporary design. Her wider work to encourage interest in architecture shouldn’t be underestimated either! Would highly recommend!!

We wanted to alter our family home, which had been used by a lot of the family over 4 generations. The alterations had to be done in such a way that it would be in keeping with the original design yet meet our expansion needs. Mattinson Associates very cleverly came up with an external design that did this and produced a fantastic internal layout for us. They cleverly moved some internal walls and patiently worked things through with us, The result has been excellent.

I worked with Lindsay on the Young Designer's Award which Mattinson Associates owned and ran for a number of years on the Isle of Wight. In 2018 and 2019, Lindsay worked alongside the Isle of Wight Council's regeneration programme to identify design-based challenges for young Islanders to undertake that allowed young voices to input into the future regeneration plans for the Island. The awards also engaged young Islanders in a conversation about design and the world around them. Lindsay has a very progressive approach to design and is always looking for new ways to improve the built environment, and furthering education at grassroots level on better design for spaces places and buildings. Her dedication to the Young Designer's award was second to none and she went out of her way to support young children by giving workshops at schools and sharing and seeding ideas from around the world. As well as developing the annual challenge, Mattinson Associates put on a gala evening to showcase the young people's work and celebrate the winners across multiple categories. These evenings were always well attended and so well put together, allowing young people the opportunity to not only be recognised for their innovative designs but also to showcase their efforts to the wider community. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Lindsay for any project again.

Mattinsons set out the scope of works well from the start and produced some great ideas for the interior and exterior of a modern but rather boring looking house. They took it all to planning and were successful in getting permission for all aspects of the project. They were helpful in finding appropriate kitchen companies to use and although we didn't eventually go ahead with the rebuild we are confident that Mattinsons would have produced a superb finish.

We met Lindsay over 20 years ago and have worked with her on a number of large commercial projects, both in the UK and overseas. Lindsay successfully combines immensely practical solutions with a great creative flair that produces beautiful buildings. It's an inspiring combination and we would have no hesitation in recommending Lindsay and her team at Mattinson Associates Ltd.

We asked Lindsey to help us explore some options available to us with regard to our grade 2 listed offices, together with drafting some ideas for new-build premises in a new location. Lindsey and her colleagues were really interested in what we were trying to achieve and understood our ethos. She was experienced, creative and thorough. Although external, environmental factors mean that we have not taken the work further to date, I would not hesitate to use Lindsey in the future.

I have worked as a structural engineer with Mattinson Associates on several projects and it has always been a pleasure. Architectural requirements are always communicated clearly resulting in an easy flow of information throughout the design process. They listen to suggestions on ways to simplify the structural solution and coordination of architecture and structure is always easy. I would thoroughly recommend Lindsay and her team without hesitation.

We would thoroughly recommend Lindsay, Jasmine and the team. They have worked for us on phase 1 of a design and build project to achieve planning permission for a wonderful, high spec, contemporary house that fits brilliantly with the local environment. The design they created makes the most of the glorious surrounding countryside and sea views on the Isle of Wight. They are very creative, hard working, professional, responsive and easy to work with. Their excellent relationships with the planners and other local professionals e.g. civil engineers have made this first stage of the design and build process fairly straightforward. Lindsay and her team supported us with our refurbishment project for our holiday home in Seaview. To have clear concept ideas on paper, that make it into the build and then turn out even better than our first thoughts, is a fantastic feeling. There have been some minor tweaks and changes in materials along the way, but we are really pleased with the look and the space works very well for our young family. From the first briefing, to seeing the drawings, making adjustments and starting the rebuild and watching it being brought into being has been not only exciting but beyond my highest expectations. It has gone from ordinary 1950’s bungalow to bang up to date with an open, light and sunny home opening onto garden living – just what I wanted and more! The exterior transformation was almost the biggest challenge and your design has absolutely worked miracles – all the neighbours are as delighted as I am with the brand new look!”

“We commissioned Mattinson Associates to refurbish Seaside House and make it into a happy welcoming home that was more than simply a comfortable, modern seaside holiday home. We were anxious to retain the period feel and gave Mattinson Associates a brief that allowed them much discretion as we were out of the country for most of the time. The result has been an absolute joy in every respect and Mattinson Associates’ attention to detail and their understanding of our brief (such as it was!) and wishes have been a very happy experience. We have a wonderfully comfortable home that is modern yet has not lost its sense of history, they have made the most of the exceptional views that Seaside House enjoys and we are happy that we have a home where we can welcome our children and grand-children and yet when they return to their own homes we feel that we are in a cosy space in spite of having four bathrooms and two cloakrooms. (Very necessary when there are ten of us in the house). I hope that we shall not embark on a similar project again at this stage of our lives but I would not hesitate to ask Mattinson Associates to help us again if we needed to.”
