About Us

We are a multidisciplinary independent design practice with a holistic approach to bespoke architecture. We specialise in state-of-the-art contemporary new builds as well as rescuing period houses and bringing them from their original state to an exciting new home. Protecting and enhancing the period features as well as making a contemporary new space to live in and enjoy. We also can provide an interior design service to your existing property with an extensive knowledge of art and antiques as well as period paints and colours. object was established in 1995 by Nigel Buckie, BA(Hons), Dip(Hons) RIBA with the intention to pursue and undertake any project that requires an 'object' to be designed, whether that object is a building, interior, furniture or artwork. What makes object unique is the complete involvement with every aspect of each project. We create tailored, avant garde, high quality living solutions that are made to last and to add value to properties in the short and long run. We aim to concentrate on the concept with integrated detail, and focus on those elements that may turn an ordinary space into a memorable one. We have been featured in several publications, which can be found here. We belong to the Federation of Small Business and Construction line (UK Register of Pre-qualified Construction Services). We are Chartered Architects and a RIBA registered practice.

Having worked with Nigel at Object Architecture on many projects we can confidently say his level of expertise and attention to detail surpasses our high expectations. Plans have always been provided with high level of detail and accuracy, Nigel is always on hand when needed and is always happy to help which we know the importance of having dealt with many different architecture's. We engaged Nigel Buckie of Object Architecture to plan and project manage a full scale refurbishment and extension to our period (ca. 1875) converted first floor two bedroom flat. The degree of difficulty of this seemingly simple project cannot be overstated especially because of the inaccessible location of the extension. Throughout the planning stage, he negotiated with Wandsworth Council Planners as well as our other three neighbours a plan that everyone was happy with. We were delighted! The project encompassed a total strip out; bathroom/kitchen switch; structural changes; an extension and finally a total coordinated redecoration. The transformation was incredible and has really given our flat the “wow factor”. Problems encountered: At times, our neighbours were not always happy with the noise, dust, time etc., but Nigel was THE touch-point for all complaints from neighbours - and indeed ourselves. He kept us out of the “negotiations” and it wasn’t until the project was completed that we realised how much that was worth. Would we use Object Architecture again? You bet. We already have. During 2014 we have engaged Nigel to check both defects and potential of properties we have wanted to buy. He is our first and only port of call.

First hired Object to design and project manage a large house extension housing a new kitchen. Object consulted extensively to determine our overall aims and to identify areas where compromise was needed. Very keen to keep within budget, and very flexible about finding alternative ways to do things when the original idea proved too costly. Also very good at accommodating our changes of plan. Object sourced high quality and reliable builders to do the work. The end result is of a high standard and a pleasure to use. Since then we have used Object to source contractors for other work, and to oversee the quality of the result. For, example, we have extensively remodelled the old and creaky central heating system, For the most part this has been very beneficial for us, and has saved us time and effort finding contractors in the absence of reliable recommendations. We value the ongoing relationship we have developed with Object Architecture.

Nigel at object architecture worked with us on a project that took around 8 months to complete, being a whole house renovation from top to bottom including side return extension. He came up with the designs to turn our nice but not particularly stylish or ergonomic Victorian semi into a beautiful house with so much better flow than it had before. Nigel's key strengths are the detail of the design and spec, which front loaded all decision-making and forced contractors to quote on a whole-job basis, so minimising the number of unforeseen extras that can crop up. He was a highly attentive project manager who visited the site often and caught mistakes before/while they were being made, in time to correct them. This saved us as the client a lot of trouble and time, and invaluably saved us from having conversations with trades that could have resulted in mistakes being made through our inexperience/lack of knowledge and occasionally their desire to speed things up or cut corners. His approach goes well beyond simply designing spaces into helping with decisions on colours, flooring, bathroom suites...it really helped us achieve a coherent and high spec finish to the house and we couldn't be more pleased with how it looks and feels to live in.

A large Victorian House split into two when we started working on the design and process turned into an elegant and sophisticated traditional yet modern comfortable house. Nigel from Object was very attentive to what we wanted, provided speedy drawings and costings, made the changes we needed,helped us negotiate the planning and party wall process and found us a builder. We have been very happy with living in and using the extension he designed.

This was for the Artists House completed some years ago on a tight budget! We built the main shell/fabric of the building based on our initial design and assisted the client on details.

I have worked closely with object architecture while designing their new website and I could witness the care and attention they pour into every project. The hardest part was choosing which projects to feature and selecting the photography as there were so many wonderful examples of contemporary and period architecture. Nigel Buckie from Object Architecture undertook a complete renovation of our terrace house in North London as architect and project manager. Nigel worked with us to redesign the property for modern living. Our project involved structural work as well as restoration of Victorian features and complete updating of services as well as fitting new bathrooms, a kitchen and new floors and renewal of ceilings and walls. Nigel helped us procure our builder and managed the project from start to finish. Nigel provided inspired design solutions as well as practical project management support based on in-depth experience and understanding of building and builders. We consider that this project would not have been possible without his support. I unreservedly recommend Nigel Buckie to those seeking the services such as those he provided to us.
