Patrick + Rosie

We worked with Patrick for almost two years, all the way from the initial concept stage of our renovation to the project management of the work. It was an absolute joy to work with him throughout the whole process and I wouldn't hesitate to work with him again or recommend him to our family and friends. Patrick guided us through the process in a very thoughtful way, taking into account our ideas and what we wanted to achieve but also pushed us to think outside the box. I never realised how technical the build process was going to be and I'm so thankful that Patrick was there every step of the way, guiding our builder on the technical details but also working with me on the various design elements to make sure the finished look was spectacular. Anyone who has done a renovation before will know the infinite number of decisions that need to be made, Patrick helped make that easy, sharing from his experience and narrowing down the choices in a number of areas like doors, skirting etc. He also has a great eye for detail and his design choices were similar to mine so he was a great sounding board for me through out the process. We've just completed phase one and we are over the moon with the end result and we couldn't have done it without Partick - Huge thanks and can't wait to continue with phase 2

Patrick was instrumental at every stage of our project and was a pleasure to work with throughout. Patrick @ Patrick & Rosie designed and supervised the complete refurbishment of our flat. His work and the quality of his engagement were of the highest quality. He helped us identify suitable builders and suppliers and provided a very transparent and flexible budget. Throughout the work, he kept us fully informed of the progress, advised us on and resolved issues as they arouse (it was a very old flat!) and carefully monitored the expenses v.s. our initial quote. This wasnt your usual brief given we had bought a mid century ex council house with a cone shaped garden. Patrick designed and managed our very complex build and we could not be happier with the end results. From the very start Patrick provided ideas for our complex basement and first floor redevelopment advising on what was feasible and also dealing with our many changes that we needed to incorporate. Patrick managed all the submissions with Hounslow council and acted as contract administrator taking care of all the administrative activities that would otherwise have been impossible for us to manage. We loved working with Patrick on our renovation. He understood our brief and we hardly had to change his initial suggestions as he’d incorporated all the elements we’d asked for and more! This was the first time that we have needed the services of an architect and Patrick was recommended to us and we can say that it was an excellent recommendation! Patrick understood the brief and came up with a design that we are very happy with, along with a smooth process - including organising the planning permission, sending tenders out to various builders and talking us through the various quotes, recommending suppliers etc. We asked lots of questions and Patrick was always very helpful, we felt that we got the best advice throughout the build. I have worked with Patrick for some 2 years now on a home extension project, from the initial design work through to technical QA support and advice through the build phase. Patrick is very personable, professional and supportive, always happy to help and provide an independent perspective, backed-up by what is clearly a very strong technical background. Patrick is a responsive, creative and flexible architect with a great sense of design. He listens carefully, has a quiet way and suggests multiple options. His taste is excellent and he is quick and responsive. He structures his compensation so that he is paid in milestones based upon completion and is fair in interpreting when a fee is due - so you feel you have a partner in building focused on completion and a success fee, not in milking a client. I had him redesign a 1050 square foot flat (essentially 95 square meters) entirely; it was entirely gutted. We moved load-bearing walls, carved out a chimney stack, moved bathrooms and kitchens and essentially redesigned the whole place sympathetically - creating a modern flat in a 1920s block located on the grounds of the old Royal Palace off Richmond Green. In addition, Patrick has redeisnged a large patio and a nanny flat for me, adding a second floor sympathetically onto an 1883 house, and doing it within strict Council guidelines. Finally, should you need them, Patrick has good contacts with an excellent builder (ask for Stevens Builders) and with good kitchen design options, structural engineers, etc. and he makes no commissions on these, but passes you his referral commission if applicable (15% on appliances, etc.) He's an honest guy, and if you don't have your own, he deals with hard-working, preferred, battle-tested tradesmen and is not naive about them - you won't land in the soup.

Patrick is a really nice guy and very professional, which makes him great to work with. He did the drawings for our refurb project for a 2-bedroom garden flat in North London. He came with ideas and layout suggestions and was also good at listening to our requirements and able to adapt to our specific needs. Architectural Services We employed Patrick to design and create the builder's specifications for a large (5m x 7m) extension which involved combining three irregular rooms into one and extending out from the back of the house. We enjoyed working with him and found him to be positively creative in the solutions he developed for the extension. Once we had met a couple of time and discussed our likes and dislikes, he seemed to understand what would and would not be acceptable and we were pleased that we didn't have to reject unacceptable options. He came up with innovative solutions (for example in how to hide a large piece of steel) which was great. He was also very professional and precise in developing the specifications for builders - which made getting quotes so much easier and he was more than happy to explain the implications of our decisions. We would wholeheartedly recommend him.

Having lived in my Victorian house for thirty five years and loving it as well as the area, I decided to retire in Clapham. I had always dreamt of redesigning my very dark kitchen by extending it to the side alley and making it a hub of the house for entertaining and socialising. A key benefit of the side return would be to restore my double reception rooms to a proper living room. After searching for an architect for a long time, I was very lucky to be recommended Patrick who straight away understood what I wanted despite my rather vague specification with a long list of requirements such as a bright room with natural light, minimalist but not clinical, practical with plenty of storage while bringing open space, incorporate the patio garden in the design while keeping its current size and a link to the reception rooms. I also wanted to use marble as I love this natural stone and wanted to match my Carrera marble cafe table bought on a whim 30 years ago and to have soft grey cabinets to match the veins of the marble. Patrick's design represented exactly what I had in mind incorporating the link with the patio and bringing more light in the sitting room. He found neat solutions to move the washing machine and dryer in a laundry cupboard under the stairs hidden away behind the original wooden panels giving a very clean line in the hallway as we cannot see the door. He also recessed the fridge, freezer and large larder on the side wall and at the same time hiding the supporting column. Further more Patrick was able to negotiate planning permission for two key features in the design that would usually be very difficult to obtain. Full credit there as we would have lost maximising the natural light and the feeling of open space as well as a secluded green garden. This initially daunting project turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable thanks to Patrick's guidance throughout the process as he encouraged me to persevere searching for the right key products such as the virtually frameless sliding doors optimising natural light, the perfect marble slabs for the splash back and island, the soft grey cabinets that change shade according to the light and the darker grey stone floor that soften the feel of the room and matches the veins of the Carrera. Using the same stones for the patio garden gives a great sense of space and harmony. Patrick taught me to look for details as key to minimalist design and colour matching in different lights. I grew quietly confident that it would be a success and became a little bolder in my choices such as selecting the Louis Poulsen pendants. Patrick allowed me to create the kitchen extension of my dreams that I still keep enjoying living in it everyday after a few years as well as entertaining a lot.

Patrick + Ryan was recommended to us to help with a fairly major house renovation, including extending and remodelling the kitchen space and adding a loft. Having never used an architect before, we weren't necessarily sure what to expect, so feel extremely lucky we found Patrick + Ryan and had a really high level of consistent expertise, professionalism, knowledge and creativity the whole way through the project. Patrick listened to what we wanted, design-wise, and looked at how we used or would be using the spaces to come up with extremely clever design ideas -- including fitting a fantastic bathroom in the loft bedroom space and making downstairs open-plan -- which completely enhanced our thinking. The design of our house is fairly unique in our area, plus we live in a conservation area so this meant limitations to what we could and couldn't do. We were definitely in safe hands -- Patrick handled the planning process beautifully and seamlessly. In fact, the whole process from drawing up the plans, making adjustments along the way and the build were seamless. We couldn't be happier with the end result, almost a year on, we still open the front door and can't quite believe how fantastic every element has turned out to be. We can't recommend Patrick + Ryan highly enough.
