Tye Architects are a RIBA Chartered Practice with its head office in central England working on projects all over the United Kingdom and Internationally. We had the unique privilege of being one of Nicolas Tye’s first solo clients. Gladstone House is a reflection of his passion and architectural genius. Our plot in the Chiltern Hills presented Nicolas with a wealth of challenges - steep incline, east facing, long and fairly narrow, beautiful views, plus a long wish list. From the moment we saw the first concept drawing we were blown away by the skill in which the design maximised all aspects of the plot but also incorporated such exciting and beautiful elements. Nicolas and his team guided us through the whole process from planning to tender to detailed design drawings up to the end of the build. We rigidly stuck to the original design and finishes such that the house now exactly resembles the CAD drawings that graced the pages of Grand Designs magazines for many years - long before we were able to start building ! It has been an amazing adventure and journey and thanks to Nicolas and his team we are blessed with a stunning, modern and timeless house that we plan to enjoy for many more years to come.

Nicolas Tye is an outstanding architect. We instructed them to help us design an extension to our home with some internal work to the original house. Planning has just been submitted and we are very excited about the design of our new home. As with most projects there were changes but Nicolas and his team were very accommodating and flexible in their approach. This is the first time we’ve embarked on a project of this size and NTA are highly professional and guided us through it all. I think it would have daunted us but with Nicolas and his team’s exception knowledge, creativity and vision we know we can build our dream home. Growing up in a wine region, I appreciate the fact that good wine takes time! Working with NTA on our lengthy project, involving two planning applications and one pre-application advise, reminded me many times that we are working on something quality - which takes time. If you need standard drawings, within 2 weeks, looking similar to many other houses, then this is not your stop! These guys form mini miracles over time. They are not scared (or too busy) to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch. They have my highest admiration for keeping on, where most people would have settled for second best. Also despite all the set backs and time delays, they stuck to their original fixed fee, set more than 18 months before. NTA are very approachable and professional, have high ethics and their fees very competitive. Also their planning consultants, SmithJenkins are the very, very best! Pop NTA an email - you will never regret it!

I have used Nicholas Tye Architects for various projects in the past and was so happy that I used the firms services again for our own house, which is a three storey, 6000 square feet family home. We worked with Nicolas Tye Architects (NTA) on our project in Cyprus which was completed in October 2015. This was our first experience of building and we found NTA after a few false starts with other local architects. It was the best decision we made. NTA were creative, efficient, detailed, thorough and importantly for us, not overbearing. They listened intently to our lifestyle, requirements and issues and helped us through the entire process of planning, design, visiting and selecting suppliers, construction, liaison with our local contractors, choosing the final finishes, overseeing the work and the interior design. Given we were in Cyprus and they were in the UK (they did many site visits), it still worked very well and our local contractors couldn't speak highly enough of the quality of drawings and the support they received. We absolutely love our new home and a big part of that is down to the excellent work by the Nicolas Tye Team.

We engaged Nicolas Tye Associates, (NTA), to undertake some major re-design work on our home after a careful selection process. We were initially attracted by their design flair, but finally chose NTA after meeting with Nicolas Tye, who gave us great confidence in his creative vision and belief he could deliver something special for us and support us during the project. NTA generated some creative solutions that responded well to our brief, including some exciting design features that we felt would be essential to achieving an exciting space for us to live in. The firm also proved very helpful in guiding us through the design and project build process, holding our hands each step of the way, (as we were novices to such a major redesign project) . They helped research some money saving engineering solutions whilst maintaining an eye for details and finish and have patiently supported us throughout what turned out to be an unexpectedly long build process, due to planning and build difficulties. Such talent and support comes at a bit of a premium, but in our case, it has turned out to be very valuable to us overall. There have inevitably been some areas of the project management detail that have proved challenging with NTA, but this is not unexpected in any such large project and we, as a demanding client, have no doubt been very challenging at times for them to work with too. Overall, we'd highly recommend NTA to anyone looking for a design partner to help them achieve a stunning, creative, quality, modern solution for their home improvement, or "Grand Design" dream.

NTA took on a very difficult brief to sympathetically, but radically modernise a grade 2 listed house. A building well known and loved within the area. Not only did they deliver on the brief, but the end result improves almost daily and has without doubt met with the approval of the community. Whilst I have nothing but praise for the fundamental designs delivered, I actually believe that a critical component was their engagement post design and through the build process without which I think the end result would have been a disaster, despite fabulous drawings!
