We engaged with Ian and the team to help us design, plan and build an indoor swimming pool and facilities to fit in keeping with a listed property. Ian's ability to transform our ideas alongside the rigour of listed building rules and develop an imaginative solution were outstanding. Taking the collective views of the family, listening to our needs and then leveraging on his experience was a great way in developing the scheme. During the build phase Ian has taken a leading role in communication and control of drawings and plans to ensure the scheme progresses well working with the main contractor and other parties to ensure we the client are delighted. A pleasure to work with and highly rated and respected.

I am pleased to recommend Progressive Architects. This is based on them delivering what I wanted and the role they took. It is worth understanding the whole new build. We started back in 2015 with a different architect who was a friend of ours. She did the initial designs and, with the help of a planning consultant, got it through planning. The house we wanted is best described as an oak framed, larch clad 'eco' house which is settled into the hillside. The build cost (no VAT) was around £450k, for 300 sq mts over a period of 2.5 yrs. I needed Ian to basically take over from the concept level drawings and make it reality. Our previous architect had already said she was not current in terms of building regs and detailed technical design. We had previously spoken to 5 other architects and for a variety of reasons they did not fit our needs. It is always important to my mind to have a firm you can work with and who have excellent qualifications for what is a complex building. Ian and his team then undertook all designs liaising with building regs people. They arranged for the engineering input, topographical assessment and other needed external inputs. Part of their role was to keep the stress off me by the way. They did that very well! They then negotiated with my preferred builders, took us through the contract stage and then held our hands at every step in the build and acted as a liaison with the builders. During the build their technical input was outstanding. Finally they reviewed all the invoices the builders sent and at the end arranged for a QS to review some oddities in the final invoice. So we do recommend them. Define the role you would like them to take. We were very pleased to have engaged them for the duration of the project.

We hired Ian Whitworth of Progressive Architecture for the detailed architectural design of Woodcock House from planning approval through building regulations and the issue of construction and fabrication drawings. He made many significant improvements to the design and liaised with structural engineers and fabricators. He worked to a high professional standard in a timely manner. Ian was always helpful and courteous and was a pleasure to work with. He did an excellent job for us and we give him the highest recommendation.
