These guys are great fun to work with and their ideas and design just the best. They really helped me with this renovation project and I'm sure they will do the same for you.

We worked with Timothy back in 2016 to help design our loft extension - which turned into a bit of refurbishment of the upper stories of our house. The design made great use of the space - far better than the standard designs we had from loft specialist builders. He worked with us to get the best possible design through the planning process and ran a tender process for the builder selection. Overall I was very happy with the work, the attention to detail and the guidance we received.

Jonathan and Timothy were excellent! They stuck the right combination of listening to needs, encouraging good design and injecting the character that their practice has developed. I took on a lot with this project and their expertise and advice was invaluable….couldn’t have done it without them!! Thanks guys!!

We moved into a house into October 2022 that has been extended and Smith & Taylor were the architects that had been contracted to help with the extension. We were drawn to the house because of the quality of the extension and by the thoughtful way it had been designed. The architects obviously took a great amount of care when working with the previous owner.

We have received excellent advice, designs and follow-up from this firm and have been extremely pleased at all steps of our project.

The first part of this review corresponds to the recent extension to our existing Smith&Taylor designed house. As before, Timothy and Jonathan were very knowledgeable in all respects of the design and build process of our two storey extension. We felt assured about how it would go due to being in their capable hands 15 years ago. Three aesthetic directions to go in were designed, leaving it difficult to choose which one we wanted. We had inspiring discussions about each one and are absolutely delighted with the end result. Timothy's experience also got us out of a tricky situation when our local planning officer challenged our plans which we felt was totally unjustified. He handled this with the utmost diplomacy leading us to receive approved plans - worth weight his weight in gold! Previous review: The highest recommendation possible as we have used them twice, 15 years apart. From initial contact, both Jonathan and Timothy were purely professional, whilst being approachable. Our initial project was a complete redevelopment of a large, suburban plot. Three, well-formed options were offered, each one ingenious in their own way and in keeping with the architectural styles in the locality. Pros and cons were carefully set forth for each option, allowing us to make a well-informed decision. We are still in love with our house 15 years on and feel very lucky to have had input from Jonathan and Tim who are incredibly talented. Their responses to any queries were speedy and they offered solutions to any bump in the road that came our way. Bespoke details, including a magnificent staircase, were no problem for this creative and experienced pair.

Smith and Taylor designed a standalone double garage with multi-function space above it. A lovely design, very much in keeping with the surrounding houses in finishes (roof tiles and brick type) as well as profile, which was key due to living in a conservation area. Very happy with all aspects of their work, thanks again Tim and Jonathan!

Jonathan and Tim were great to work with, their innovative ideas and originality, whilst rooted is past architectural traditions, resulted in a building I enjoy every time I enter. The whole process was great fun, and the results were excellent.

We used Smith & Taylor to both design and manage 2 building projects on our family home, a Basement Conversion & Side Return Extension and a Loft Conversion. They were great throughout both projects and were among the most reasonably priced companies we got a quote from.

Excellent work by Tim and Johnathan. Helped with plans for a development we needed done. Sensitive to our needs and that of the local area. The drawings produced were excellent and thorough. Am looking forward to our next project with them.

Smith & Taylor created an impressive design to convert a 200 year old stone barn next to a Grade 2 listed house while retaining the integrity of the overall structure. Jonathon’s persistence with difficult planning staff gained consent also for a new, large detached house on the adjacent site. As always intended, we sold our interests and were delighted when the buyer, a builder himself, used the designs, so far as we could tell unchanged, and occupied the barn with his family. This firm carried out the design of a major refurbishment of our Georgian house, including the creation of three new rooms adjacent to or underneath the basement. They also acted as project managers for the work. The design work was wonderful and fully fulfilled what we were looking for. Their project management was exemplary, and there were absolutely no problems which arose during design and construction. We were delighted when they won a RIBA award for our project and they deserve - and get from us - the highest possible recommendation.
