Stagg Architects

We worked with Stagg Architects, who had come recommended by a friend, on a complex inner-London rooftop extension project, which lasted overall 3 years. It was an intense, long process full of hurdles and we would not have succeeded without the help of Ben & Ben. Ben Stagg was in particular instrumental in helping us secure planning approval from Westminster City Council, which was very difficult to obtain. His approach to planning was very considerate, with a quality first submission, and he was also able to establish a very good relationship with the team at Westminster City Council. Since we had no previous experience, the team at Stagg Architects really spent a lot of time and energy helping and guiding us through the process, understanding what we liked in terms of design, but also bearing in mind the requirements of the project from a planning perspective, to come up with the right vision for us. We could be at time demanding, and the team had a lot of patience with us, suggesting great ideas or listening to our ideas and coming up with solutions. We love the result. It wasn’t without difficulty, but we would like to thank the team at Stagg Architects for making it possible, and would definitely recommend them.

We engaged Ben Stagg following a visit to our house via the "Architect in the House" scheme organised by Shelter, a housing and homeless charity and RIBA. Our first impression was that Ben was a sensible and friendly architect with good ideas for our major house renovation. Our project was a 4 year up and down affair with a happy ending. It went through three planning applications, each testing the patience and creativity of Ben. Ben has been a most patient, courteous and diplomatic person having to deal with neighbour's challenging concerns as well as the planning committee. In addition to designing the house, Ben also managed the project with his highly competent assistant, Gregory Stonard. We worked as a team together with our contractor, Jimi of Eagle Homes. Any issues were sorted out amicably and the project was completed within expected time and budget. We are delighted with the end product - a warm and well designed family home.

Ben Stagg worked with us 4 years ago now and had come recommended by a friend. It was a recommendation we were very grateful to have taken! Ben was enormously helpful. He had great ideas but was also a great listener and wanted to make sure we were happy with the job. He gave great aesthetic and also practical advice and never pushed us to do anything we did not like or which would have taken us out of our price range. He was entirely reliable, personable, collaborative and made what appeared to us to be a rather daunting job (our whole house was renovated on a reasonable budget and the main change was the whole back of the ground floor was re-designed) manageable and often fun. He organised planning permission for us and managed the whole project, on top of providing detailed architectural plans. His understanding of how to bring more light into our home, which we were very keen on, was much appreciated and as a result we have a light filled kitchen-living room which had previously been dark and strangely configured. He was diplomatic and very professional with the builders we had hired and his work meant that they delivered the work to a realistic schedule. We would happily recommend him to others - he carried the responsibility he had for the project lightly, whilst simultaneously working on other projects. We really enjoyed working with him and are very happy with the finished product largely due to Ben's hard work.

Ben is very organised, well planned and thorough. His attention to detail is excellent and our house project benefited a lot from this. He also is a very good mediator who makes things happen. The party wall process and construction process was not straightforward, but Ben has always been the peace maker among us and he would find solutions that everyone is happy with. He was very careful with spending too and we actually saved a lot by having him to manage the project. We were able to finish our project on time and within our budget, which is a rare case these days, and I highly recommend Ben and the team.

Ben was the architect on my kitchen side return, which required quite a lot of structural support. And we had rather difficult neighbours. He provided an excellent service - was always punctual, delivered plans on time and as we needed, and worked really well with our builder. A very good quality service. I'd thoroughly recommend Ben.

Living in a conservation area with challenging planning rules and a very slim chance of us getting what we wanted it was really important for us to have the right architect on board.
