Introduction: We’re an award-winning architectural design studio specialising in residential design, planning permission success and detailed construction drawings for builders. Our hands-on design team, led by Benjamin Heginbotham, an experienced architectural designer with a background in construction, offers high-quality plans and advice for home extensions, conversions, listed building alterations, development in conservation areas and new build residential design. All on a fixed fee basis with no hidden costs, no stress and no confusion. About Benjamin: Ben began his career as a joiner/kitchen cabinet maker before going on to manage residential build sites, working for 10 years on countless home extensions, refurbishments and renovations. He then went on to complete a degree in architecture (Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part One). Ben launched The Practical Planning Company in 2019 to make the process of designing and building your forever home easier, more transparent and more affordable. We wanted to investigate whether we could make a couple of extensions to our home which we knew could be contentious given where we live and the age of buildings around us. We had several architects come and tell us how challenging it would be and then present quotes (in some cases several time that which Ben services cost us) for all kinds of videos/imagery etc on top of the planning process. Ben came, listened, and worked through the drawings and the whole application process providing us just what we needed with no unnecessary additions whilst we were unsure of the potential outcome. Value and service were top drawer and I cannot recommend Ben and the PPC highly enough, give them a call you wont be disappointed! .....Oh yes and we secured planning for all aspects of our build without a hitch too! 100%

If you're looking for a friendly, professional, knowledgeable and super helpful service from start to finish, then I'd like to share that I found this and more from the Practical Planning Company. My project was a side extension for which I received great ideas; lots of information and advice; crystal clear answers to any questions and endless patience and understanding when I changed my mind on several occasions! Ben was amazing to work with as was Denise who kept me up to date with progress- so this really is a team effort and it shows. Can I think of any ways that the service could be improved? No. Everything is well thought out, clear to follow with excellent guidance and advice every step of the way. Thank you to the PPCo for a truly fabulous service.

Conversion of 2 bed to 4 bed house with dormer and

This is an absolutely fantastic team with excellent work ethics. They have worked with us on couple of projects already and we intend to have good working relations for the future projects too. The communication is excellent and work they produce is extremely high standard. They have flexible working pattern and will produce high quality work ahead of the deadlines so that there is more than enough time to think about it and finalise. Exceptional! That is the word we'd use to describe the way Ben and Denise supported our journey. Starting by the suggested design, up until the delivery of the technical drawings, we were extremely pleased with the quality and standard of service that we were provided with. Ben has a gift to make things very easy to understand to someone that, like us, has no experience or knowledge in the area. He listened, understood and improved our inital concepts to a way that we never thought it could be done! All in a very relaxed but professional manner, with no impositions or pressure, and with tremendous clarity. The communication with Ben and Denise was always very easy and efficient. I came across Practical Planning on Facebook in July 2021. We had our initial consultation middle of August, first designs by end of August and with as many changes as we needed, we were putting in Planning permission by end October! Build started in January 2022 and will be finished by early May! Such a swift and efficient process if you want it to move quickly as we did. Ben puts you and your ideas first and is there at the end of the phone when you have any questions. He also took us through the planning stages and still available to advise builders if needed. The price is so, so competitive in the architectural world, but there is no compromise on service and design quality. Aside from all the technical knowledge, Ben is professional, polite and very easy to talk to, especially when you are new to a build project. I recommend him to everyone I speak to who mentions they are thinking of renovation/extension works.

Nothing but praise! Since the beginning of the process, Ben was accommodating, clear and to the point. The handout you receive at the start explaining the process is a little bit of genius that really helped us understand the end to end process quickly and easily. The plans were drawn up quick, with great quality and all of our feedback and questions were considered. As for dealing with the planning application, it was a breeze. I barely had anything to do. Ben and his team ensured it was all dealt with and the application went through first time with no amendments. Any question I had, they were on email or phone ready to help. I honestly cannot recommend or thank them enough.

I highly recommend the Practical Planning Company. From Ben’s first visit through to receiving the final plans I’ve been delighted with the service from the whole team. Ben provided advice and undertook all of the work to obtain planning permission and building regulation approval. I’ve now received an extremely professional pack which includes everything required to start our build. I was kept updated on progress every step of the way. All of this was provided at a very reasonable cost which was outlined right at the beginning of the process. It's been a pleasure dealing with Ben and can't thank him enough! He gave us ideas we hadn't even considered for our extension. Never had to chase for anything. Everything was done very promptly. The price quoted was very competitive and worth every penny. The quality of the approved drawings is outstanding! The builder has even commented saying they're some of the best he's ever seen with over 30 years in the trade.
