About Us

TOA provides award winning, contemporary design from our base on the edge of Dartmoor in the South Hams, Devon. We offer a full architecture and design service, from initial briefing through to completion. Tim is also a certified Passive House Designer. We work hard to understand our clients and their needs – beyond what is written in the brief – in order to find unexpected opportunities and solutions. Our ambition is to craft the extraordinary out of the everyday; to create settings that belong in their context and are enriching to those that encounter them. We have particular expertise in contemporary residential design, including new dwellings, extensions, alterations and conversions, frequently working with listed and historic buildings in conservation areas, the National Park and AONBs. We aim to make the process of construction as enjoyable and stress free as possible, and our services can be tailored to the particular needs and budget of each project. We approach every project in a collaborative way, looking for the connections and relationships that will be central to its success. We were looking for an architect with a proven record of working with the local planning department, who understood and appreciated the vernacular of the wider area as well as the immediate surroundings. We had no hesitation in engaging TOA after seeing the quality of previous work and discussing our brief during the initial consultation. TOA's collaborative style made them easy to work with across all phases of the project from the evolution of the design until final completion. From the very beginning the knowledge, experience and architectural flair was obvious. Consequently we enjoyed the project experience. Tasked with our brief of opening up our lovely but small barn conversion to provide more light, space and a better relationship with the garden, TOA hit the brief bang on. The hugely detailed building pack made it easy for the building contractor to convert the design into reality. We are delighted with the end result that mixes modern design and materials with the existing.

From the outset Tim was friendly, enthusiastic and professional. His innovative approach to design helped us get the most out of an old barn next to the property. His input into the landscaping of the property entrance was also spot on. Building projects can at times be stressful and Tim's hands on approach with project management and builder liaison kept us calm in adversity. I'd highly recommend

From start to finish Tim provided an excellent service. He had really good ideas, was flexible to fit in with our needs and provided regular opportunites to reappraise the project. He dealt efficiently with the planners and building inspectors. He sourced the builder which we chose with him and supervised the project allowing us to have confidence in the whole process. Most of all he has transformed our ramshackle badly converted barn into a modern living space we are proud of.

We contacted Tim Offer Architects to design a new dining room for us. It's an awkward space - it's the main entrance to the house too. With creative changes in flooring and roof heights Tim designed something for us that does both brilliantly; giving us more natural light, a better use of outside space, a greater sense of and some bonus storage space. Tim is thorough and helped us through the whole process, making it all go as smoothly as possible and we love the end result. Now we need the rest of the house doing...
