Tony Martin RIBA is the trading name for Transposition Architects Limited, a chartered architectural practice based on the north coast of Cornwall. Specialising in medium-sized commercial and educational work, the practice also readily undertakes local residential, domestic and conversion work along with contract administration, certification services on site and expert witness services for planning appeals. Run from an office ‘hub’ near Porthtowan, the practice prides itself on providing a professional and bepoke ‘designer’ service combined with experienced contract administration. Tony acts as the principal contact for all projects and, through a virtual office of linked sub-consultants, provides an effective concept, design and detailing service that delivers to programme: ‘twice the service for half the price’. Tony approached our planning application with a real "can do" attitude bearing in mind the site was somewhat challenging. He considered multiple options to site the property and on every occasion he consulted with us, he took our thoughts on board and amended where necessary. The design he created was innovate and maintained the integrity of the area and lent itself quite brilliantly to the size plot. He maintained dialogue with planning officers throughout and worked with them in a cohesive way, at all times feeding back those consultations, on multiple occasions. We have huge respect and regard for Tony he is articulate and a true professional in every sense.

Tony has transformed our narrow barn conversion into a far more suitably proportioned, bright and airy family home. He has achieved this by the addition of a double storey extension with a picture window that allows light into previously dark areas of the house and maximises our view of the surrounding countryside. We now have a separate kitchen/diner and lounge which suits our needs as a family perfectly, new shower-room downstairs and office upstairs. Tony has always listened carefully to our wishes and ideas, making helpful suggestions as necessary. He has been very approachable throughout the project and clear with explanations. He has been invaluable with communicating and coordinating with other professionals involved with our build.

Imaginative and feasible; open to dialogue and clever on solutions. The project was an extension to a Georgian house in East London - Grade 2 listed building with all the accompanying restrictions. Tony Martin was across all aspects of planning and able to liaise very effectively with local planning and EH to create a large top-lit family living room, bedroom and bathroom. His attention to detail was also impressive. I intend to use Transposition again.

Tony Martin completed two projects for us - a conversation of a French 16th century Pigeonnier and an extension to a Georgian House in London which is listed and within a conservation area. We were delighted with both projects. To focus on the Pigeonnier, he skilfully came up with a design to convert this semi derelict building into a two bedroom, two bathroom elegant and stylish family holiday home, with a huge double height living space incorporating the many hundreds of holes that used to be home to the building's original occupants! He was immediately sympathetic to our design needs and came up with a variety of solutions which hit the mark. He is very clear in his thinking and communication and a pleasure to work with.

The Pigeonnier really was a challenge, at first it appeared unfeasible but with a little bit of divergent thinking we were able to extend to one side to accommodate the bedrooms under a fabulous roof terrace which allowed us to live the heart of the tower as a fantastic vaulted living space.

I collaborated with Tony on a large bungalow conversion, the architectural transformation was amazing, the once tired and dated exterior was transformed by Tony's vision and ideas (insertion of an orangery roof lantern, new windows, new exterior materials/finishing etc). I wouldn't hesitate to work with Tony again, he has clear ideas, great communication and is very easy to get along with.

My 60s house had a lot of wasted space and the flow through the house was not practical. Now I have a wonderful new modern home that fulfils all my needs and has exceeded my expectations. Tony Martin of Transposition Architects not only designed the new layout and extension but project managed everything. With a lot of forward planning and very regular site meeting everything went smoothly. Any building issues were dealt with promptly and caused no major problems. I was very happy with the professional way I was treated and the way all the others involved in the work were treated.

Tony created a wonderfully stylish and functional design for our new kitchen and extension that was way beyond what we thought possible. We were extremely impressed by his friendly and professional approach from first design meeting to project completion. He liaised with Building Control and our builders so that things progressed smoothly and on time. He is very thorough about every part of the project. This meant there were no nasty surprises and the work was completed on budget. You know how rare that is! We loved the clever little flourishes that he suggested to our house that made the space unique and completely ours. We recommend him unreservedly and enthusiastically.
