Founded by chartered architect and sole practitioner Ian Banks RIBA, Atoll Architecture (t/a Atoll Ltd) is a creative architectural practice with a strong focus on delivering design-led projects in a thoughtful and client-focused way. Ian takes great pride in the integrity of all of his architectural services, and looks to deliver excellent design, personalised customer service and professionalism in equal measure. He has a wealth of Architectural experience and interests - ranging from eco-friendly projects and technology, to luxury swimming pools & spas and contemporary new homes, extensions and refurbishment. Each and every design is delivered with a true focus on a bespoke, professional and personable service, unique to each client. Atoll is an architectural practice with a difference: Ian regularly undertakes work to help sustain & support cultural or community spaces. He also partners on other creative projects with a network of other creatives, such as artists, designers & landscapers. This role also encompasses art consultancy, collaborations and commissioning to create truly unique spaces. A significant proportion of this work is volunteered pro bono. Ian is also a registered NUJ journalist, and writes regularly (via his blog and external publications) on matters to do with architecture, public art and the public realm. Ian did a really great job for us, not only in terms of the drawings he produced but also with regards to assisting with planning permission. He was professional and accommodating with our extension, and we would definitely use Ian for our future projects.

We found Ian to be very helpful and thorough in designing our extension. We would highly recommend him as he helped us through the whole process from planning permission to building regs approval to recommending builders - invaluable given we were complete novices in this area!

I have worked on and off with Ian Banks of Atoll Architecture over the last 12 years. We have built new bespoke properties, extensions, swimming pools and cellar conversions all designed and mostly overseen by Atoll Architecture. I have found his attention to detail and attitude in overcoming day to day issues that occur with all building projects to very fair and reasonable. From a builders prospective this is a very refreshing attitude. I would absolutely recommend his company to anybody thinking of having a building project carried out.

Iain did a great job for us, right from the initial concept through to detailed design and then to project management of the building contractor. Created a great space for us at the rear of the house which really accentuated the aspect onto the garden. Thoughtful throughout and always flexible. Wouldn’t hesitate to use Iain again and to recommend him to others!

Ian was the architect for a major and complex house expansion project. These projects can be stressful and are hard to manage. Ian guided us patiently through every step and helped us keep to budget. He managed the contractor and kept the team together. He was always available and willing to attend site. He understood our vision for the project and played a big role in it being brought to life. But perhaps the biggest recommendation we can make is that he did all this with a friendly professionalism throughout.

Ian acted as our architect for an extension project back in 2001 and when we came to do a full renovation of our house 15 years later we were very happy to use his services once again. He is great to work with to realise your ambitions within your budget, get you over the line with the planning and building control authorities, find a contractor and then supervise the project through to completion. He has also helped a great deal with post completion and rectification issues and we are very happy with the results of our project with him. Ian is personable, thorough and professional and we have no hesitation in recommending him.
