About Us

I am a sole trader, establishing my business in 1984, after working for national construction companies on building and civil engineering projects throughout the UK since 1967. The service I provide is personal. I feel it is my duty to lead my clients through the process of achieving their desired goals by giving them the best advice I can, improving ideas that might afford better value for money, and guidance on how to control the financial aspects of their projects throughout the construction process. (Not all construction projects need to be a nightmare as the television would have you believe.) I provide my services to domestic and commercial clients, including speculative housing and commercial property developments. In addition I often work for building contractors and subcontractors estimating and quantity surveying throughout southern UK.

Areas Served

I cover a large area from Cornwall in the west to Hampshire in the east and up to the M4. I will work outside these areas but become less competitive because of the distance involved.

Brian has recently designed my house extension, he provided a professional service and was able to give some excellent suggestions and able to overcome any unforeseen problems. Brian was always on the end of the phone to answer any questions and I would have no hesitation in recommending him

I have employed Brian on several occasions to undertake architectural designs for planning and building regulations submissions and, due to his professionalism and quality of work, would not hesitate to do so again in future. As usual Brian produced not only first class drawings but used his design flair and construction knowledge to produce a beautiful yet cost effective design solution. Brian's attention to detail and the pride he takes in his work shines through with the end result being a wonderfully designed building which works. In summary, his attitude, enthusiasm, professionalism and skill are second to none and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Brian Helps has designed the complete renovation and reconstruction of three house for me: Alderbury, Wiltshire in 1993, Westminster, London in 2002 and Charlton, London in 2015. On each of these jobs, Brian has met all deadlines and worked within agreed budgets. I have very much appreciated his ideas and suggestions which have both improved the finished product and saved costs. Brian's very positive attitude has frequently resolved unforeseen and difficult problems. In particular, where there has been the inevitable disagreement with building contractors half way through a job, Brian has managed to resolve the situation to my satisfaction.

Brian has done the designs for two projects for us. The first was a garden office building, the second was a house and garage extension. Brian is easy to work with and happy to go through multiple revisions to come up with the ideal solution. We were very happy with the work and end result.

The project was to take down an existing lean to conservatory and replace with a much larger Orangery. Brian came up with many suggestions that we may not have considered ourselves, nothing was to much trouble for him and he was always available for help and advice throughout the project. He has considerable knowledge of the potential planning obstacles and in the event of any problems was very quick to come and discuss things with us. He was very professional throughout, his fees were very reasonable and I would definately use his services again and recommend him unreservedly.

Having a construction company with an excess of 50+ employees I employed Brian as a designer and project manager for an exclusive and important restoration and conversion of a huge manor house. I can safely say executed his role far beyond what was expected of him, to the point whereby I was loathed to lose his skills, expert knowledge and skilful client, labour and sub-contractor management. Brian not only brought design and project management, he went beyond what was expected by sourcing innovative ideas and materials to please my client. If you are looking for a professional to design or/and manage your project you would have to go far and wide to find anyone better.
