“We interviewed several firms for our 3-story home addition. We chose Nugent for a few reasons. One, they don't beat around the bush. They are honest and work hard to stay within budget. In fact, we have several meetings before any type decision was made or money was exchanged to be sure the project could be done to both parties satisfaction. Two, as a design/build firm, it was so much easier to keep track of who is in charge of what and where accountability is. There's only one person managing your project... so it is super easy with Nugent to get answers and attention. Three, Alex, Nick, John and the entire Nugent team are so patient and talk to homeowners like equals. There weren't any terms that were over my head, and the design team was so good about walking us through every little step so that we were comfortable. “I contacted Laura about helping us determine if our 105 year old row house could handle a rooftop garden. Because older homes used different building methods, often without today’s building codes as reference, there was no easy way to easily tell if this could work. Laura knew the right person to contact and brought in an expert engineer to assess the situation. Both he and Laura concluded that the roof would have to be completely rebuilt in order to start the project. This was more than we had planned. In the process, however, we were able to locate the best area to create an interior access to the roof, which it presently does not have. You can image getting the AC on the roof serviced is quite a pain. From the beginning of the project, Laura was extremely professional, patient and accommodating. She knew the right questions to ask and answered all our questions thoroughly. It was such a relief to have an experienced architect managing the project and communicating all the details throughout. Most importantly, Laura helped us make a major decision with confidence. She saved us countless of dollars, time and probably nightmares had we selected someone less knowledgeable. Although we won’t get to enjoy her state-of-the-art, architectural designs for our rooftop garden as I had envisioned, I’ll enjoy recommending her services to clients and friends. “I had a wonderful experience with Kaki in her design of my house remodel. She designed the Kitchen , Den and Two bathrooms of my 1990's Old Town Alexandria Townhouse. She had a challenge beyond words with a small footprint, many floor to ceiling windows and a view of the Potomac River to fit into the design. I had some specific expectations and high end finishes to contend with. Kaki created about three schematics with incredible style and functionality. She suggested practical applications, steered me away from some ideas that I had to spend too much money on for a certain microwave, and Wine Center and let me know the wow factors with smaller sized Subzero, Wolf and other appliances. Her use of light and color were amazing.
