New Space Architecture
Architects in Uplowman, Devon
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars26 April 2023
“We were recommended New Space by a friend and they were brilliant from start to finish. We wanted another bedroom for our youngest daughter and with limited space around the house we didn't know how we could do it without moving. New Space suggested we converted our loft and came up with an incredible design which allowed us to have a new bedroom and en-suite in the loft. They made the process so simple, as well as fun and their drawings were so clear and detailed the builder was really happy.”

“Maria assisted us with our Grade II listed loft conversion. We were delighted with the quality of her work and attention to detail. She helped us through every stage of planning our loft conversion, from the initial designs to liaising with builder and structural engineers and producing our application for planning permission. We were impressed with the standard of her work, the speed at which she responded to our requests and the fact that she understood what we wanted from our loft conversion and was able to offer us practical and elegant solutions with the final design.”

“We have just received planning permission for our internal reconfiguration which Simon has designed for us. He visited us on several occasions and helped us to see the potential in our property exploring all the options available. Together we talked through how we want to use the house and we have used every pocket of space to reach that potential. Simon has been friendly and accommodating throughout and he has kept in touch regularly. He talked us through the planning process and kept us updated whilst successfully securing planning permission. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Simon, he is a highly skilled architect and we thoroughly enjoyed working with him. Many thanks Simon!”

“I found NDM Architects on the Web and not as a consequence of a personal recommendation. They offered an hour's free consultation which proved very helpful and gave me confidence to instruct them. Their website was well laid out detailing exactly what their services included. This was supported by a detailed "step by step" letter of instruction with itemised costs for each step of work. Service was always prompt with most replies (phone and E mail) by return. They came up with design ideas we would not have thought of had we instructed a builder directly. I'm pleased I instructed them especially in dealing with paperwork for approvals of the District Council and recommending builders to undertake the works.Money well spent.”

“I have worked with Andrew for a number of years now; firstly working for a major housebuilder and latterly my own development company building smaller, bespoke schemes. In either circumstance, Andrew is able to hone is years of experience to create a large scale scheme that maximises square footage and maximum revenue for the developer or create something with individuality, but in keeping with the vernacular of the area. His attention to detail is second to none and his town planning qualifications allow him to work closely alongside the Local Authority ensuring the best scheme for his client. I hope to carry on working alongside Andrew for many years to come and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him for any form of residential development.”
Alasdair Robertson Architecture

“Mr Robertson was worth every penny! He was instrumental in guiding us through many hoops when it came to renovating our listed cottage. He was able to give us good ideas and took the heat out of all the overwhelming paperwork that was essential for the job. He liaised with Exmoor Park and was able to deal with any hiccups in a calm and professional way. He was always polite and explained things to us in layman terms when necessary. Mr Robertson worked to our finances and was always "on the case" as it were. Without him, the cottage would not look as stunning as it is today.”

“Our restoration project evolved into a very special experience for all the team involved. Kirsty Curnow Bailey was recommended to us by a local buildings surveyor and we arranged an initial 2 hour meeting. The 'cost' to us was a donation to Kirsty's favourite charity. We gelled almost immediately and the journey began. We were involved at every part of the design stage and our ideas were blended with Kirsty's practicality and imagination. She lead the negotiations with the National Park planners and the conservation officer with great professionalism. She introduced us to two building companies and we were pleased to award the job to RM Builders in Tavistock. I year later the works began. The restoration took 16 months and involved a complete reroofing , new external lime render, major lath and plaster internal restoration and a full replumb and rewire. Kirsty was ever-present and chaired site meetings every 2 weeks. The budget was observed closely and contingency added at 2 different stages. Underground drainage works were a major additional cost and could not have been fully predicted at the outset. The build quality was exactly as requested and Kirsty was adamant that the planned standards were fully met. Discoveries on the way included a 1500 carved granite fireplace in the main room, finding a 3rd staircase inside a 5 foot rubble wall and opening up the blocked cross passage in the centre of the house. The oldest timbers exposed during the works date back to the 1300's! Kirsty was pivotal in returning our home to its current condition, blending very old with contemporary and very modern. We are delighted with the result and we would recommend Living Space Architects to any prospective clients. Everything now works 100%, the building breathes again and will be on track for the next 100yrs for sure. Thanks Kirsty Geoff and Sue”

“I am so pleased I asked Julie-Ann to design the refurbishment of my house. From the Dormer extension for the master bedroom suite, to redesigning the kitchen and dining room to make one big open plan room, to the ground floor shower room and utility and even redesigning the patio area, Julie-Ann and her team have through their knowledge, experience and attention to the smallest detail, given me a beautiful home. Julie-Ann and her team are lovely, nothing is ever too much trouble. If you want an Architect who will design you something really special then In Ex Design is that company.
