Duncan at Crawford Bond worked with us on our recent renovation project. He was so supportive and patient, taking the time to talk us through the process, discuss design ideas and help us make the most of our budget and the available space. We’re so pleased to be in the new version of our house - it’s a massive upgrade from what was there before and the space works so much better for us.

We engaged Duncan Crawford to do our loft extension from start (survey) to finish (contracts and management of building). We couldn't be more delighted with the results! A recent visitor called it, "a triumph!". We had a fairly pokey loft in a 1930s Cowley terrace, and Duncan's managed to transform it into two rooms and a bathroom that feel light and modern - and somehow even roomy? I don't know how he did it! Best of all? We were able to keep our box room on the 1st floor: Duncan designed a staircase that fits the space, without imposing on our hallway - and it (magically) doesn't feel steep or dark in the slightest. Duncan was the height of professionalism throughout the project: he was incredibly patient, took loads of time to answer all our questions and to help us achieve what we wanted from the space in a realistic and beautiful way. I thoroughly recommend Duncan Crawford as an architect. We engaged him in relation to the substantial ground floor extension and reconfiguration we had planned for our Summertown family house, after considering two other architectural practices and obtaining references for all. What especially attracted us to Duncan’s practice is that he specialises in domestic extensions and, being a one-man band, we were sure that it was his attention we were getting, rather than that of a junior in a larger firm. Before we engaged him, Duncan had a number of initial discussions with us, improving on the reasonably clear ideas of what we wished to do. Once engaged he did all the drawings, advised on and submitted planning applications, recommended a shortlist of builders he regularly worked with (we selected PWF Building Services Ltd), prepared the contract documents, administered the contract and provided site inspection services. Throughout, we found Duncan to be careful, consultative, immediately responsive, reassuring, and transparent when it came to his charges. We are very pleased both the quality of the building work, and with the outcome of the project as a whole.

Having just completed a large rear and side extension to our home in Oxford, we are delighted with the overall design and project management from start to finish. We had very specific requirements for our project, and our ideas were discussed pre-planning, and implemented into the design right from the beginning. Drawings were very detailed, clear and concise which meant that we had no problems in obtaining quotations for our extension. Duncan has been extremely professional and helpful throughout the build, and I can highly recommend his services as both architect and contract administrator.

We hired Duncan Crawford after seeing what an excellent job he did designing a loft conversion for a house across the road. We too wanted a loft conversion and he met with us to discuss our requirements. After listening to Duncan's innovative ideas, we decided on a very exciting project that will give us more usable room in the loft space than we originally thought possible. He was clear about the cost implications of the various options to make sure that we would not exceed our budget. Duncan is friendly and honest and was very clear about his fees, with written information provided from the outset. His attention to detail is amazing and the builders have commented on the quality of his plans. If we have had any queries or when we needed help choosing the building contractor, he was happy to chat on the phone and has always answered emails promptly. My husband and I thoroughly recommend him.

Extremely expensive set of measured drawings for a small terraced house. We were looking for design drawings to take to planning for a small extension. Ended up paying nearly £2000 for a set of measured drawings and no designs - the next stage was 000s more and was calculated on a percentage of the project and (coincidentally? ) that ended up more double the initial discussion. Communication poor and not clear. In the end a very amenable company did the whole lot for £650 .
