Our project was a modern extension in Holmfirth. After a selection process it was great to work with Fibre, Michael’s creativity and Martin’s commercial expertise definitely stood them out from the competition. I have to say that it’s only when you work with someone creative you realise how great it is to be in safe professional hands. We loved Michael’s enthusiasm for our project, whenever we had doubts he quickly convinced us with his reassurance and passion for our house. Like any development of this type when boundary’s are being challenged there are always going to be a few bumps on the road but the end product has been amazing. I love the work that Fibre created for me and have to say a big thank you to both Michael and Martin for making it happen. I would absolutely recommend them for anyone looking for similar projects. Be bold, trust in them and you will not be disappointed. Thanks guys! Ben.

Our project was a 1930's original property, with an arts and crafts style located in Huddersfield within a conservation area. We bought the property as a renovation project for our forever home, we therefore looked to engage with the right companies and contractors rather than ones offering the cheapest or quickest turnarounds. We were keen to work with companies that had experience of conservation areas and understood how to preserve the character of an existing property whilst bringing it up to modern standards and incorporating contemporary designs.
We engaged with Fibre Architects following procurement of 3 quotes to achieve our design aspirations summarised as follows: improved natural lighting; improved energy efficiency and warmth; connecting the house at 1st floor level with the existing extension and creating an open corridor and additional room; moving the kitchen to the front of the house with garden aspect and creating a family room in the previous double garage; rebuilding a double garage to the side elevation and redesigning the external space to recreate the main approach and entrance to the front of the house rather than the back door and improved parking without need to drive up the full length of the house.
On initial meeting Fibres enthusiasm, ideas and visualisation of how to achieve our aspirations really shone through. Their attentiveness and accessibility at all times was also apparent from our first enquiry, which from experiences is not something that you get from some of the larger architectural firms, another reason we looked for a local smaller practice to engage with.
Fibre architects were not the cheapest quotation we received but their estimates were more transparent and realistic, along with their innovative design submission which achieved exactly what we set out to do and more. Michael led on the design and project management service, that we opted for due to work commitments. His attention to detail and vision enabled us to agree a design that resulted in a mix of contemporary and traditional design applied in a respectful and considerate manner, importantly ensuring we maintained the character and beauty of the original property.
Fibre handled the specification of works and tender process out to several contractors and we opted to engage with Holly Bank Construction, based on their submission and examples of work viewed at other properties . Holly Bank provided an excellent service, very good quality of work and finish and I would not hesitate to recommend them.
Our project did encounter some delays due to some changes to scope as we progressed, delays in production of third party supplies and some weather challenges - all part and parcel and expected with a project of this nature. Fibre and Holly Bank were very responsive and accommodating to make any necessary adjustments, support with any unforeseen issues arising and ensured that we were able to move back into our property as soon as possible. The quality of the work and getting it right was always a priority and this was clearly explained throughout the design and construction stages if deadlines were not met.
Its been a pleasure engaging with Fibre Architects along with Holly Bank Construction, David Mcgrath Designs and all associated suppliers and tradesmen. All of which have done a tremendous job and we would not hesitate to recommend them all highly.

My wife and I approached Fibre Architects to help us in the initial design of our extensive house renovation. The works needed to incorporate domestic and business development of the property and Fibre was successful in fulfilling our brief whilst retaining the domestic look of the property completely. We engaged Fibre at the design phase initially, but continued with their support throughout the construction to oversee the project to completion. The project budget was clearly detailed at the outset and apart from some unforeseen deviations along the way, was adhered to throughout. We are delighted with the overall result and would recommend Fibre to any prospective clients.

I set on Fibre Architects to design an extension for a property I had bought to transform. Their design itself was OK, however it was completely at odds with the house itself, referred to as a juxtaposition in the initial design meeting, however we wanted a complete modern dwelling, rather than a brand new shiny box attached to a derelict old house. We tried to make it work, and pressed Fibre to make the two blend better, but ultimately I felt that a photo for their portfolio was more important than the needs and wishes of their client. We looked at some of their previous work, which I felt wasn't of the required level of finish I was looking for, We also met with their preferred contractors which were ridiculously over the top in terms of price (don't let the persuade you not to get other tender prices) ultimately I called time on the project when I received 3 pages of specification and 1 page of construction detail for my build which was very basic in detail and very expensive in invoices. Communication became difficult after losing confidence in their ability and receiving two prices approximately 2/3 of the price of their preferred contractors, I have since started again and taken on a architect from Ossett, the difference between the twos service is indeed another juxtaposition, The new architect is everything I expected working with an architect to be, The project has been quantity surveyed before planning to make sure its on budget, 70+ pages of construction detail and specification, I've visited a site and the finish is exceptional and communication is easy and friendly. Working with Fibre was unfortunately very expensive, difficult and frustrating. I gave them every opportunity to make the project a success, but they failed to produce at any point and ultimately it was a very expensive mistake.
The only positive to come from the project was that I called time on the project before it was built and found a great architect that has absolutely nailed the brief and I have no doubt the finished house will be outstanding and exactly what we originally set out to achieve.

Comment from Fibre Architects Ltd:
We’re really disappointed to receive this review and your feedback.
During the process, we received a number of emails of praise suggesting that you loved the design we developed and only informed us that you had any issues with it many months after the design work was finished.
Your brief was always to create a very modern extension contrasting the existing house and not to fully upgrade the main house that was being lived in at the time – it was certainly not derelict.
We always recommend a tender process of at least 3 contractors and we only put forward one contractor in this instance initially to help speed up the process of pricing the construction work. There was no obligation to use them at all.
Prices for the core construction work were always within the original budget. Your additional requests to design a larger extension and addition of other further work inevitably increased the overall construction cost for the proposals.
At that point, you did not commission us to prepare full construction details and specifications for the project, only tender drawings so that is why they were not available at that stage.
Overall we produced a high-quality design for this project that we were and are still rightly proud of, and are again very disappointed & surprised to read this review when no issues were brought to our attention at the time of carrying out the work.

Fibre Architects were inspiring and creative on their first visit and through to the end of the project. Solving a difficult issue of floor levels and incorporating period details and elegance into the orangery and garage scheme, they were able to design an extension that blended seemlessly in period style with the existing house. Nothing was too much trouble and they are also great fun to work with. They managed to bring the garden and house together, something we didn't think possible except for their vision. Thank you Martin & Micky.

Our project in Huddersfield was our attempt to transform our traditional home into something special and contemporary. We engaged Fibre and also their recommended builder Erudex. It was a fabulous relationship. The design suited perfectly, all planning issues were handled for us. The build went more smoothly that we could have hoped for. The end result speaks for itself. A totally worthwhile experience.

Currently at the construction tender stage of our large extension project and thus far, Fibre have been fantastic. They have been attentive to our brief and have understood our vision for the project whilst using their skill and flair to create a truly exciting design. We have no prior experience of commissioning significant projects and they have supported us at every step, explaining what is required and suggesting professionals, who have all been efficient and of high calibre.

Our project involved creating a new dwelling within the grounds of a Listed building. Fibre worked closely with us and the planning department to produce a superb design solution which ultimate will be practical and cost-effective to build. They ticked all the boxes for us and for the planners, no mean feat.
