“Verity has been wonderful to work with at every stage of the design process, her endless ideas, enthusiasm and guidance have made it a really enjoyable process. We have really valued her honesty and her questions that have helped us pin down exactly what we wanted and needed from the space, we’re delighted with the resulting plans. Verity also worked on scoping the interior design of the main section of the work, she was great at helping us distill the vague idea that we had in our heads about what we wanted the space to feel like and then turning that into detail of what it could and should be and how to layer elements in to achieve it. Across both the architecture and the interior design Verity has brought attention to detail and a really comprehensive approach to the plans – all the builders who tendered for the work said that her plans contain more detail than they normally ever see and that it’s a really valuable thing for them from a costing and planning perspective. We can highly recommend working with her!”

“We’ve been really happy with PWCR and Geoff Cole in particular for the support and guidance they’ve given us through our self-build. Geoff provided a design only service as we were keen to manage the build ourselves but throughout the build he was always available to provide guidance and moral support. We should also give a mention to Simon Rutter who helped us through the planning application, saving us time and money at several points. During the design stage Geoff listened to our outline ideas and wishes, and really a paid attention to the things we wanted. His initial design concept hit the nail on the head and we adopted that design with a few minor teaks. Not only did he listen to us but he gently encouraged us in one or two areas several of which we adopted and are glad we did. PCWR's costs came in as predicted with no surprises, and no petty charging for small changes. Now we are living in the house, it is even better than we hoped for! Overall we couldn't recommend PWCR more highly.”

“We recently completed a renovation with Bristol Build, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Taking on a project of this scale was daunting, especially with our tight timeline and initial concerns about potential budget bloat. However, both Hannah and Dominic were transparent from day one, keeping us updated on costs and ensuring everything aligned with our budget. One standout aspect was the incredible attention to detail shown by every trade on site. The team’s craftsmanship and dedication to quality were evident in every room, and no detail was too small. It was clear that they took pride in their work, which gave us full confidence throughout the process. Despite the demanding time frame, Dom went above and beyond to deliver on schedule without sacrificing quality. Their commitment to finishing the project on time while still achieving such high standards is something we deeply appreciated. For anyone looking for a reliable, detail-oriented, and transparent building company, we highly recommend Bristol Build. They turned a potentially stressful process into a smooth experience, and the finished result is everything we had hoped for. - pictures to follow. Rob &Gema”

Architect or Architectural Designer FAQs
An architect is a professional who designs and creates building plans, ensuring the building is functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing. They collaborate with clients to understand their needs and create designs that meet their requirements. Architects also consider building codes, regulations, and sustainability principles in their designs. They may oversee the construction process to ensure it aligns with the design intent.
If you are looking at a house extension or building a new home from scratch, chances are you are going to need the help of a residential architect. They have extensive knowledge of architectural design, construction methods and building materials, not to mention a strong appreciation of ergonomics – warmth, light and flow within a property. Architects will also be far more capable of seeing the bigger picture – carefully balancing aesthetic appeal with structural safety. With their local knowledge, your Shepton Mallet architect will also often help to obtain planning permission and building regulations approval.

After choosing a residential architect, you will usually start with a consultation to discuss the project. Preferably at your property or building site where the work will be done. Give as clear a picture as possible of the kind of home you are trying to create to your architects. Chat through your goals, projected budget, scope of work, schedule and feedback, together with any very specific requirements you might have. They will explain their process to you alongside any other on-site visits up to and including the build stage, depending on whether they will be involved at that stage. From there they will produce the designs and plans required for your project.
The cost of hiring an architect in Shepton Mallet can vary depending on the scope and complexity of the project, experience, reputation, and location. Architectural fees are typically structured as a percentage of the project’s total construction cost, ranging from 8% to 15%. For example, if a project has a construction cost of £500,000 and the architect’s fee is 10%, the fee would be £50,000. It’s advisable to discuss fees and payment structures with architects in Shepton Mallet during initial consultations.
